I've been looking for a cheap project car and my friend recently got a 944 so the porsche bug bit me. 82, built in 81, no brake pressure (owner replaced lines), 500 dollars +75 for a set of porsche wheels with new rubber. 131k miles, new clutch and rebuilt trans, rice rocket but it can be reverted back to stock easily. I looked at it past weekend and basically told the guy id buy it. What do you guys think. Also blown DME relay but that's trivial. He says it has testarossa seats (lol), it started right up, isn't a flood car, it's from Cali. Cracked windshield and dash but not horrible. Has a heckeblende (those are like 100 dollars in themselves?) I plan on getting rid of the rice rocket wheels. Opinions

WTF is a heckeblende?

The JC Whitney hood scoop is an amusing counterpoint to the Historic plates!

Still, for $500 and running, outside isn't cosmetically trashed, so if the inside's decent, can't argue much 'bout the price!

I wouldn't say bad idea...

No brake pressure indicates they either didn't repair the lines properly and bled the system or they failed to adjust the rear wheel cylinders as well.

All of the 924's and early 944's crack the dashboards, it's just the way they are due to the way the backing isn't supported quite well enough, etc.

Windshield can be updated to a flush fit one from a 944, search here for more info.

Testarossa seats? WTF? Idiot PO's. Gotta love em. 911 and 944 seats fit and can provide a nice upgrade. New seats covers are available, but expensive.

Most don't like the heckeblende as they were a dealer option and kinda cheesy, but they are a personal taste.

Its that silly thing between the tail lights that looks perfect on the 993 but rubbish on all the others.

What kind of seats are they? The drivers has the usual wear on the left bolster that isn't shown in the pic... Are they worth something because I would gladly sell them to make my money back and get some crappier seats.

Biggest answer to this question is:

"What's your budget?"

Parts are getting harder to find on some things, and depending on your budget, you may find the car may cost from a few hundred or thousands depending on the parts necessary. That said, I've seen worse candidates for 924 projects.

Also depends on what you plan to do... full resto? Just make it a driver? Is it going to be a track car?

My budget is not very big hence the 500 dollar price range. I will be racking up parts as I get money for them. I already have a very reliable daily driver car so this car is a project.

My plan for this car is to return it mostly 100% stock, apart from a few "tasteful and improving" modifications. I would probably do the projector headlight mod, and some sort of radio improvement. Apart from that, as stock as possible is what I want.

Conceptual 3 minute photoshop of what car would look like de-riced. Of course the stock rims would go on (which come with the car). They are basketweave/spider web looking ones.

if you don't buy that, I will just for parts. Appears to be within my range...
