I bought a 81 924 turbo a few weeks ago that has been sitting for a few years. I changed the fuel filter and the fuel that came out was all black and gooey. My issue is I can't get it started without stepping on the throttle a little. I searched for vac leaks and can't find anything. If there are any suggestions on where to look next I'd really appreciate it

Same thing happened on my 81 that had been sitting. Appears there is still crud in the fuel distributor and or injectors. I was able to clear mine out with concentrated fuel system cleaner like Techron or Gumout. Took 2 tanks of fuel to get it really running right.

Thanks, hopefully something simple like that will work. I'll probably pulley the distributer and injectors out and just soak them in fuel system cleaner first

1. Smoke intake
2. Repair all vacuum leaks
3. Check system and control pressures, hot and cold
4. If needed, correct system pressure via shim adjustment to primary relief valve, correct control pressure via WUR refresh
5. Set mixture

If cold start persists following above steps, report back.

I'm pretty sure I've got it narrowed down to the cold start injector. I hooked direct power to it and it started up perfect. So I'm guessing the temp sensor is bad. If anyone knows where that is located or any details about it I'd appreciates one info

From memory, it is either in the coolant line behind the engine where the dash's temp sensor is, or in the line that comes across under the intake manifold. In other words, difficult to get to. :-/

The Haynes book (which I don't have here at work, obviously) is fairly clear.

Yeah I found it under the mani, and good way to go about testing it to see if it works or not? I'm pretty sure it doesn't but I want to be sure before I buy a new one

You can ohm test the thermotime switch. If it is cold, there should be a low resistance circuit between the two connections and if warm there is still a high resistance circuit but not enough amps to engage the CSV. Also, if you have a circuit from the positive post to the body of the switch, it is bad. Not sure why they keep a high resistance circuit all the time. May be to keep the heater warm.

I've got it running pretty healthy now. Cleaned up some grounds that were corroded and fixed a few vaccume lines but the only problem not is when it's ideling if I just slightly touch the throttle it sputters and wants to die. If I give it a hard rev it's fine but a real easy press on the gass basically kills it

If your distributor has 2 vacuum lines going to the advance, you may want to recheck the routing to make sure the lines aren't reversed.

Think you are right. Forgot that you had an 81 931.

Have you checked the vacuum line going to the computer under the center console?

There is a vacuum line going to the computer. While there you may want to check for corrosion on the electrical connections.
