Since there is no project section, thought to post it here.
As some of you might know, I had a turbo conversion on the stock engine of my green 924... then swapped it for a 968 engine. I never really made an effort to sell the parts and for some time it has been bothering me that these parts were just collecting dust...
So, bought myself a cheap one from 1982 to have some fun with.
Here how i got it; needed new tires, new alternator brackets, door handle, exhaust, brakes, and some other small issues addressed.
Now with new tires and coated wheels;
Thought it would be nice to see what power it makes now in completely stock form;
95 at the wheels after 31 years is not too bad i recon.... the engine from the green 924 made 92 whp after going efi and dyno tuning...
Todo in the next few weeks / month; efi conversion (Vems), coilovers (GAZ gha) and the turbo conversion. |

Very nice, the 2.0 NA turbo setup will live on
Any plans how to fix the clutch issue? (as it was one of the reasons you went for a 968 setup) _________________ Porsche 924 2.0 Kompressor 136.1wHp @ 5650rpm / 201.9wNm @ 3900rpm (dyno @ dp-engineering.nl) |

Well, the slipping clutch was the instigator to swap to the 968 engine. Am still not 100% sure about the clutch. Spec has a ready to go item, but they say it can only hold 325nm... Know Helix has a clutch; still have to inform about the torque capacity. |

Why not do a switch to hydraulic clutch setup? I am doing that on my DProd tribute car, and it's really not so bad. You can use a cheap Ford Bronco II clutch disc, and get a 931 S1 pressure plate and flywheel setup. Then you can use a torque tube, shifter, and transmission from an early 944 or 924S, which will be just about perfect for turbo setup. You'll want new master and slave anyway, easy to plumb into the existing brake reservoir, only other thing you'll need is the clutch pedal connector. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Think going hydraulic is an idea... but also found a local company that modifies clutches for pulling contests; they say it is no problem to make something that can hold around 600nm... and cost are quite low. So recon i'll be trying that.
Here a work in progress pic;
Need to put in about 2 days of work to finish it, unfortunately not much time the next two weeks. |

Have the car running again, unfortunately at 0.7 bar the clutch already slips, could do one pull on the dyno; 175 whp, but with the timing still far from optimal.
Here some pics.
New exhaust system 3", you can just see the external wastegate in front of the first silencer.
Gas front and rear coilovers (no torsion bar delete). They actually drive pretty comfortable, was a bit suprised. Think a very good coilover set quality and prize considered. Biggest issue; as you can see no attachment for brake line .
Engine on the dyno
Engine pic2, still have to rearrange some stuff to make it a bit more tidy and make an oil catch

Too bad about the clutch, need to find a stronger one asap lol
Care to elaborate a bit more on the coil-overs? Who is the manufacturer, where to buy, what price?
Recipe for cheapest hp out of 924 is found I guess: healthy stock 924 engine, crossover pipe to left side, ditch CIS and convert to EFI and upgrade the clutch.
No hassle and 100+ additional hp guaranteed. Oil cooler recommended though when going to track though. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

You can secure the brake line with a couple of zipties.
Use a large/long one to loop loosly around the brake line and the strut.
Use the second, small one to pinch the loop between strut and brake line closed.
Finally tighten the larger ziptie to hold it all in place.
The second ziptie provides a spacer to keep the brake line from rubbing on the strut. Works great for hoses as and ignition wires when you don't have a loom.
Great progress thanks for sharing! _________________ Stefan

@ Raceboy
Here a link to the GAZ website; http://www.gazshocks.com/products. Have the GHA kit, believe the price for it is around 700 euro (including camber plates).
Indeed, the clutch needs to be upgraded asap

The clutch stock seemed to have regained some streigth after driving a bit... not sure why. So put it on the dyno again to see what could be done.
Managed to make 229whp and 266nm. The engine has a bit of pinking issues so when the new clutch is in will be going E85.

Very nice result! That is probably the most powerful boosted 924 NA engine, at least with regular gasoline.
Mine in the red 924 made a bit more but that was with 30% mix of Xylene to overcome detonation.
What boost did you run it at? _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Have ramped the boost to create a flat torque line (for obvious reasons). Boost starts at 0.7 bar and increases to 1.2. Had to take out quite a bit of timing, recon on E85 with 1.2 bar it will make around 245whp.
Want to make more rpms but have concerns about the lifters and rod bolds. Can not find much info from other people trying higher then 6500 rpm on these engines (in stock form).
How do the stock lifters and rod bolts keep up at 7000? |

I have ran the 931 engine up to 7000rpm occasionally, so far no issues but with stock cam it has no point as VE drops quite quick after 6500. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp
