Well, not enough of a failure as this person was still driving the car. What did it come in for? Two new tires. "you guys are driving this on the road?!?" i shreaked.
"yeah, we might get that fixed some time later on."

Holy #*&@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think I have ever seen anything like that before. Those people should not be allowed to drive on the road. What if a kid had run out in front of them chasing a ball.....even if they were going 30 and the back rotors were in perfect knick, they would have never been able to stop.

I don't think I could ever work in a shop. I would be too close to strangling people on a daily basis.

My hat is off to you!

seen that once before on a nissan that used Alfa Romeo pads...the disk has gone from a normal healthy but used disk to that form in a few months. Wrong/cheap pads can do that.

wow!!! I think that in Canada if the shop were to let that car out of the shop they would be held accountable should anything happen. These guy are just tempting fate and playing with the lives of others. JIM

Looking at that makes me absolutely furious. Completely bloody-minded. It's stupid-ass f-ks like that who rear-ended my grandfather and my aunt not three days ago on the highway as they were making a turn onto a secondary road. The offending driver's excuse? "My brakes failed." I could have been going to a double funeral if it wasn't for the grace of God.

"My brakes failed." Wow. Sh!thead. Her car's written off and she's dealing with PTSD. He's in a neck brace.

Impound that car joecitizennn!

I'm guilty as charged on a similar issue. Our Ford F350 diesel is a big unit, and the right rear brake pad disintegrated beyond the metal! I drove it this way back from our New Mexico place to wisconsin a few years ago. Finally, the pad wore thin enough and wedged between the really skinny rotor and the brake caliper. Needless to say, I had to replace everything, did the other side as well. Spendy, but I did the work myself.

Yep, back when I was a teenager, my '75 Toyota wagon lost the front brakes, backed out of the driveway, pads were laying on the ground.

I drove it a few days with no front brakes, wet roads made for interesting handling, ended up rolling it over in a ditch going around a curve.

I think it is on a state by state basis. Florida had inspections until the late '70's or early '80's. Then they tried doing emissions tests in the 90's, wasted a bunch of money building fancy inspection sites.

People fought it and the law was overturned. I had an old 1980 Yota 4X4, had to tweak on it waiting in line to try to get it to pass.

These brake stories reminded me of a time years ago in high school, riding with a friend in a VW bug when I realized he had *no* brakes at all. He had a screwdriver wedged against the floor and would pull up on the handle of the screwdriver which would yank the e-brake cable bracket which would cause the car to stop. Only rode home with him once. He finally fixed the brakes a couple of months later.
