Sorry for the shouting, but after driving it from Adelaide to Sydney, then two years of it pretty much sitting idle in Dad's carport, it's finally road legal and registered!
The best comment so far was from the lady in the RTA (i.e. registration office) who said as I was walking away with my brand new plates: "I'm glad you're excited." Dad's going to be sorry to have that space back in his carport! But I know he's very tempted to find one of his own.
There is still lots to do on it. I think the secondhand WUR I found months ago is a bit dodgy, but it might get better with use and injector cleaner put in the tank. I want to recover the seats (Automotion have seat recover kits - anyone used them?). I want to replace the carpet, too. I think it might need a steering alignment and the rack probably needs an infusion of grease. It definitely needs a paint job (that's an expensive task).
And a stereo. I think a stereo is my next purchase for it. With the power wired correctly.

Interesting. My seats are two colours, however, so I'd have to get a special order, if he'd do it.

Surely you can find an interior shop that can recover them for less. I pay $150 a seat to have them recovered... that's labor and everything. $700 after shipping plus you still have to put them on sounds a bit steep to me. _________________ 1980 924 NA

I think I will ask at a car interior shop. I got my visors repadded by a local mob, though it cost $150 the pair.
The difficulty they might have will be duplicating the fabric. The big draw of the kits from Automotion are that they use original or nearly original fabric. I can but ask.

I took it one step at a time. That's all anyone can do, really.
Besides, my Dad kept pointing out "take your time; it's not going down in value".
