This is my first Porsche period, I've always been into the Euro style cars, I've owned a few e30 BMW in the past. I was hoping the snag a 944 but I couldn't find one for the right deal. Then I found a 1982 931 that they wanted $1,200 for it. I talked him down the $1000. It is in pretty good shape for how old it is. It was slightly being worked on and has been sitting in his drive way for years since the mechanic last came and done anything to it. I have $7000 worth of receipt that came with it for the past 15 or so years. The owner rarely ever drove it since he was out of country most of the time. When I bought it, we couldn't get it to start. We got it to crank by jumping the starter, then later to find out the ignition relay was sitting in the glove box. When I got it back to my place. I plugged it in and it cranked by it's self. Since it was sitting for a good year or two since it was last worked on we knew the gas was pretty week. I put in a little bit of injector cleaner and 2 gallons of gas to help it get it's first start. Which is where I'm stuck at now tell my Haynes manual comes in. I don't really have a good way to work on it since it's in a storage lot on gravel so putting it up on stands doesn't really work that well. There is something wrong with the clutch that I know of right now. it just sticks to the floor, when I push it in I feel no pressure. I'm hoping something is just disconnected, since the exhaust manifold was semi taken apart when I got it. So I'm assuming he did the same to the clutch. The only way I could get it to start was playing with the clutch pedal going back and forth a few times then getting it to crank. We got it started a few times, and I had it running. I did however have to play with the gas to keep it going, I kept it going for a good minute or two. Within that time it sounded good. No knocks or anything worrying. I tried to do the same thing today after I bleed the tank from the fuel line, while I did that I went and got the battery tested. When I came back I put 3 gallons of 91 in it and put the battery back and I can't seem to get it to fire up. I know I'm getting spark from the coil at least. I'm hoping I'm still getting it from the plugs since it did fire up yesterday. So right now, my goal is to figure out what is wrong with the clutch pedal sticking and how to get it to fire up every time and idle by it's self. I'm going to try to take the injectors out sometimes this week and see how they are spraying and maybe do a pressure test, check the plugs and hopefully have my manual so I know exactly how the clutch assembly is supposed to be like. I'm assuming from what I've read that either my master/slave is dead. I'll try to put some dot3 in and bleed to to see if it holds any pressure and that does the trick. I'm hoping it just has something to do with a clutch safety switch, if it has one. I have lots of plans for this car. It's going to become my DD, I'm hoping to make it a mild performance car. Do a boost controller and IC when I find a good write up on how to do it, and upgrade the turbo since I found a decent one from a hyundai that will work. Do a 951 front or just do some sort of bumper tuck if possible. I'm hoping to find a pair of phone dials to trade for my BBS as well. I'd like to play with the suspension as well, do a little bit of a drop and make the car have a stanced look. Enough of my rambling, onto the pictures of my find. Tell me what you think, and help a new 931 owner out with some ideas.
