Glad to see you and your car got home without scratches ! There are plenty of crash vids on youtube from Castle Combe, but it seems to be a fun track though (only played it on hte computer)



Pure momentum coming out of Camp Corner onto the pit straight. It was a Porsche track day and many don't push too hard or at least don't know how to. Castle Combe is an unforgiving track with a high average speed and the barriers not too far from the tarmac. The 924 carries a lot of speed through corners and often gets an advantage over more powerful cars on the exits. And if your running quicker than others its only polite to allow cars past. However some make it far easier than others. In my case the Boxster S tried to outrun me into this corner, I then fell off!

This vid is the same corner I lost mine, pretty much the same as the 911 and TVR. Avon Rise unweights your car into a mild left before a tight right. Get it wrong and the pendulum effect whilst braking spits you off.

Thanks for the photos Wes, much appreciated. The car looks great on all those wheels, however I do prefer the Fuchs. Getting the right width and offset is crucial though.

I need to see if I can borrow some 6, 7 and 8'' wheels and trial them on my car before spending big £££'s I think

Yeah I agree it's crucial getting the right wheels. I think it's even more important when you're taking the car to the track.

I think mine are ET36 but I'm not 100% and will have to measure it.

I'm so glad you didn't bend your car. That looked like a proper hairy moment.

It doesn't surprise me that you were doing well against more powerful machinery. I've seen it happen loads of times with the 924/931; especially ones like yours that have had the suspension and geometry properly set-up.

The 931 may not be ninja-quick to 60mph in standard tune but I find that people tend to underestimate it's acceleration through the gears once you've got rolling. I know this from the amount of times I've shown a clean pair of heels to newer, more powerful cars.

That is super quick acceleration and monster revs. Would love to see a proper video of the car in motion from inside and out of the car. Good work my friend.

Also bear in mind the S1 RoW turbo's have far better in gear acceleration times versus 944's bar the turbo versions. More corner speed + more high speed acceleration + a little weight saving = 944, 968 and Boxster worrying performance. Simples

Just a small bit though, the number by "motor" on the s1 are not to be taken as correct numbers. That car went far faster than a std car do. Those for the s2 in the list are more realistic compared to what I have measured, and my engine goes better than both std s1 and s2s..

But I know from lots of experience that it takes LOTS of HP to compensate for lower exit speed (just as you say), i´ve done exactly that a thousand times. But when they have far north of 300hp it starts to get really hard

Do you have any track vids from your car? Would be great fun to se your driving !

Just seen this thread. Gorgeous car. But then I would say that wouldn't I???!!!!!! I really like the standard exterior/clubsport interior combo.

I saw your car in 911 & Porsche World, the feature on 924's I think it was voted as the best car there. in the article the ride height is the first thing I saw, it gives the car a real 'attitude"; would like to lower mine by 40mm but the roads here will soon take their revenge.

Glad you track the car, I would like too but I'm too much of a chicken in case it gets damaged

Just for the record, mine is also Alpine white originally, though as you will know white over red was not available on 1981MY cars like mine is. Still, definitely the best colour combination on a 931!!!

Glad you like it. I trawled this forum and internet for pics of your car. As you may know although my car was made in this colour combo it was resprayed all white in 1988. I did a lot of homework and looked at your car as inspiration to return it back to the correct paint finish. So glad I did it.

Don't be scared on the track. Go as fast or as slow as you dare. These cars are great fun on the limit that you can always get to on the roads
