This is a recent development. In the morning, when I open my car door, I am getting blasted with gas fumes. Earlier posts on the topic of fumes in the cabin seemed to have been about exhaust fumes, but this is gas. It's really strong. I checked the gasket at the fuel sending unit, and I also inspected the filler pipe, and both appear to be in decent shape. is there anywhere else where fuel or fuel fumes would be working their way into the cabin?

This would probably be a good time to inspect everything fuel related. Fuel lines, fuel pump, filters, injectors, fuel distributor, injector lines, etc. Also, check your air filter cabin, and lift your trunk carpet too.

I wouldn't advise starting up your car incase of any spark. If its in the garage, maybe try rolling it outside so your not working in the fumes. Then I would do a sniff test around the fuel components too notice if any large amounts of fumes are being expelled.

Just some stuff off the top of my head.

I found it. It's where the filler tube connects to the tank. It's got some old, cracked rubber in there and it's giving way. Mulling over how to change that without removing the tank. Hate to remove the tank, means I have to take down the axle.

Shouldn't have to drop the tank to fix that.

Filler tube comes out without bothering the tank.

did you fix the problem? It appears we had the same problem with the car at the track this weekend. We tightened the bottom clamp and that solved it for a bit.

Did you find a new filler hose?

Not yet. I've been too busy these days to fool with it. i've just been putting in $40 work of gas and then driving it for 200 miles or so, and then putting in another $40. Essentially, I've not been filling the tank up allt he way. it's high on my list of things to do, but I just haven't had time lately.

I had another weird problem. last weekend I parked my car and when I came back there was a puddle of gas under it. I looked and found a tube leading from the tank to the filter, and it lookeds as if a rock or something had taken a little bite out of it. I patched it with some duck tape and went to an auto parts store to get a new tube, which went on easily enough. Still, seems like a pretty vulnerable place to put a fuel line.

Other things to worry about. THe connecting rod, looks like a dog bone, from my fron sway bar snapped and I'll have to find a replacement. The baffles in my catalytic converter have come loose and is causing a strange rattle when the engine is under torque. I've already got a new cat, I'll just have to take it to a shop and have that put on. What else? Time for a break job, and I have a problem with the seal on my windshield. most glass shops I've talked to so far don't want to fool around with saving the original glass, but they would be happy to sell me a new windshield. I don't see the point of that, so I'm still looking for a shop who will just take the windshield up and reseal it. This really NEEDS to be done soon. I'm in Seattle now and it rains a lot here and the water is getting in the cabin, messing with my electronics and making the thing smelly.

Gotta love it!

Windshields tend to crack when removed, so it is usually easier to replace the windshield instead of trying to reseal it.

Some insurance companies have a windscreen replacement policy, free.

Hmm. How much does it cost to replace a windshield?

On my truck it ran just under $200. On the 77 Monte Carlo with internal antenna ran around $300. Try one of the outlying towns like Yelm or Puyulap (sp) . When I was stationed in Tacoma, the deals seemed to be outside of Seattle.

Supply only in Oz is just over $100.

Then expect to pay a few hundred for 1/2 tube polyurethane sealant, about 1 hour`s labour & of course P tax on top.

Personally would leave it in and simply apply a decent bead of sealant around the perimeter, top & sides. Trim will cover that and it won`t leak from the bottom until you roll the car.
