|
|
Cruising along today at about 65 mph, suddenly a pop and engine quits. No other noise, just quit.
Coasted off the road, thought I was out of gas, pop the hood to find the belt shredded. Called buddy to tow home about 10 miles (fun).
Been running great lately, hope nothing else is broken. Should I be worried? Have belt and pulley, just haven't got around to change them, yet... _________________ I got nothin'

This is on your 924 n/a?
No worries. It's not an interference engine like the turbo. _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

Running with cam timing off can fubar your injectors. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Hee hee , Got lucky I guess, stalled on break, able to coast off busy 2 lane onto another road.
Had new belt in car but no tools. Changed today, not too bad of a job, I can see why so many leave that blasted cover off though.
I thought I read on here about a NA motor got damaged by belt failure, so I was worried. I may have been mistaken. _________________ I got nothin'

Only if you're running really high compression would a broken belt be an issue. _________________ Stefan

Or if the broken belt is a symptom of a different issue.

Cam seized up maybe? If something like that happened I think you'd know about it _________________ 81 924 N/A

Broken valve springs is another issue that could cause a valve and piston meeting.
Broken connecting rod, etc.
Both of these issues would be pretty obvious _________________ Stefan

In my case, seized a lifter, broke the cam belt, also broke the cam gear (cracked the hub) etc.

Ya'll got me more nervous than a long tailed dog in a room full of rockin' chairs!
Got to take it for a ride today, running OK, may need to adjust the timing a bit though..
Hotter than sacks of ball here, black on black is killin' me, no AC either, really need to get that fixed. _________________ I got nothin'
