I think it would be best to put it in an RX7, it's a lot easier. I answered in more detail in the GD forum.

If you are set on it, I'm sure it can be done, but I've never seen it, and I have researched all the 924 swaps under the sun.

I've got a 400M... Better engine for performance IMHO...

let me know what oyu find out...I've thought about going 302 in mine. But Chev is cheaper so I'm not sure. Would a V8 handle the RPMS these cars need to perform? It seems ALL the performance I get out of my 90 horse motor is from the RPMS, not hor4sepower

the tranny's in these cars gear ratios are too short for a v8 you really want taller gears as all there power is in the low end and they redline at what 5500rpm and then up there they don't have alot of power

Even a poorly tuned V8 still makes more power at 5500 rpm then a 2.0, no replace for dispacement and so on. It's possible to get a V8 to do 8000rpm... Even back in the 60s, the original Chevrolet 302 was doing that.

I was reading somewhere that a G31 tranny does 170mph at 6000rpm in 5th. I don't know whether thats true or not, but that's plenty fast.

Depends on tire size - theoretically on 16 inch rims and 215/60 profile the G31 will do 160 mph. But if you look at a previous post on how fast the car goes there are other things to take into account such as drag etc.
The GTR's in Le Mans in 1980/81/82 where only capable of 186mph and that was with 16 inch racing rubber and over 300 horse power.

I personally wouldn't do this without having a big fiberglass wing like i have and also a chin spoiler which I really need

It all depends on gearing - replace the final drive with a lower number, and you'll reduce accelleration but get a better top end if the car was redlining in 5th previously.

A lightened/balanced 302 with a reasonably mild cam bv heads and a half decnt carb/exhaust would rev to over 6000 and give around 330 hp.

My old Vauxhall would rev to 7000, but would only pull 140mph in 5th due to the gearing - it was designed for accelleration.

This is why I brought up the G31, with it's low gearing

Yeah John, the GTRs could only do 300KM/H with 300hp, but think of what the narrow bodied 924 could with 300hp and that sort of gearing

The GTR /GTS were supposedly more aerodynamic than the 924 so putting the same hp in the 924 doesn't mean you're going to go faster.

The limit on the GTR /GTS was I think due to gearing not horsepower.

Ill try and give some insight here, since I have sold the 924 and bought a 5.0L mustang
351 windsors can be made to spim 7000 rpm, but not a s well, the mainb's use a 3" bearing which limits the upper rpm potential. The 5.0L(302) is a beter motor to use. plus the 351 is 3/4" wider and 1" taller. The standard 5.0L from a mustang has a very flat intake, and would fit under the stock hood. also the mains are only 2 3/4" bearing so they can be spun over 7000rpm with ease. dont forget these motors make 225hp and 300ftlbs stock. A tippical 5.0L can be bought with all the wiring for cheap from mustangs. THese motors will generaly go over 200,ooo miles with ease(mine has 208K) 345hp crate engines can be bought from summit racing for around $3000. another methond is to buy a 347 stroker kit, these cost around $1200, and come with everything for a complete rebuild. many of these motors have made well over 400hp, N/A with excelent street manners. with turbo's or superchargers, 600-700hp is not uncommom, and can still be quite streetable.
My 5.0L seems to have atleast double the power my 924 had, and gets better milage(18 compared to 24). someday in the future I will combine the two, to make the best of both worlds.
