http://www.rennbay.com/porsche-944-headlight-relay-harness-p-111.html?osCsid=98ce08f0a65b9854a6c120114cb73262

the claim is:
"Upgrading your headlights without proper wiring not only reduces the brightness of your new units but can also lead to costly electrical fires. The solution is a separate wiring circuit designed to handle your new high wattage bulbs."

does anyone here think this is necessary when it comes to upping the power on the lighting?

Yes, if you are using anything other than the weak stock bulbs and can`t wire up a couple of relays yourself. The stock system is inadequate anyway and a poor design, long wire length, switch carrying all the current.

Couple of how to threads that may help, also google "voltage drop" and "incandescent voltage lumens output".

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but am looking to add some h4 headlights and hid kit on my 80 931. Does anyone know if I can use this RennBay harness for my car?

Thanks!

i did until i broke down and bought it. the harness was a perfect pug and play install and made a HUGE difference on light output.

Buy the h4 bulbs when you are at it.

My lights work but they don't pop up, I have to use the knob on the motor to lift them. I plugged in the harness to the motor (the original harness has some additional wiring added by PO) and I filled the cockpit with electrical smoke. Wont do that again.

Does this harness kit replace the wiring that goes to the motor for lifting the lights?

And it's made for the 944, does it work on a 924?
Thanks,
Captain

i did forget to add that my car is a 924s. the only thing you may have to do is lengthen the wire to the alternator as i dont know where it is at in the 2.0 cars.

it did reach on my car after the AC delete (moves the alt to the bottom of the engine bay) so my thought would be that it should work without lengthening the power lead.

you should also find a place to mount the relays. i used a piece of aluminum i had laying around and mounted it to an OEM stud:

embarrassingly dirty:

the kit only replaces the wires to the bulbs themselves.

"the kit only replaces the wires to the bulbs themselves."

Mines only a weekend, sunny, occasional autocross car, not my daily driver so it doesn't get driven at night. So not high on my fix list.
Alternator on a 2.0 na is right side bottom of engine under exhaust mani.
Good write up.
Thanks.

if its on the right side you will probably have to extend the alt wire

captain kirk, can you give me information on your front spoiler? it also appears your car has holes in the body for indexing the torsion bars. it looks very clean, did you put them there?

Thirdgenbird,
I bought the front spoiler from Datatrain (member on here) who I think had bought it from someone else on here. It does not have a name on it, but fits nicely in all the mounting spots that the original lower valance fit. It is a hard rubber that would probably bend all the mount points on the car if I hit a curb with it, it's thick and pretty tough. Alot better than the tin can wadded up lower valance that came on my car.
The holes in the body are original on 76 up to maybe 78 (anyone correct me if I'm wrong). Mines a 77 and I see alot more without them than with. The torsion spring plate slides out the holes than back to remove, and the torsion bars slide out the holes. Don't have to drop the whole suspension to get bars out.
