I'M THINKING STRONG ABOUT PUTTING A V6 TWINTURBO MASSERATI motor in a 924,
any of you gone this road,or a Audi 80 TDI engine.

Let me think a Maser twin turbo v6 or a shonky, smokey, noisy underpowered, oil burning boat anchor...

on one hand i'm thinking outright power,on the other i'm thinking economy.
it's hard to know what to do,the diesel would be a lot easier to fit.

If I can get 38mpg out of my 924 Turbo it should be perfectly possible to get 42+mpg out of an N/A

I'd leave the 1.25 bhp lump in it but get it tuned up proerply and running sweet. Enjoy it for what it is

Fitting a nasty old diesel (an Audi 80 diesel is a horrible thing) will cost a fortune and cause no-end of problems - easily offsetting the savings on diesel.

Also I'm pretty sure the Audi diesel is a non-crossflow head so it'll be a nightmare to fit, both inlet and exhaust ports are on the RHS of the engine.
