I'd like to know too. What's puzzled me is that 924S/944's come already with a cool air induction system. A system that many other car owners try to imitate (second generation RX7 owners, for example).

I've got one in mine and so far it's been fine. Have I noticed anything? Hard to say. I put a throttle response cam and Autothority chip in at the same time. With all 3 in, I've been extremely pleased over the stock configuration. I really don't care if my KN lasts 1 million miles. They aren't that expensive and $60 bucks every 40,000 miles(in essence, 7 years), is no big deal. Try one.

I have one in my car.
This topic has come up a couple times before, you should search for it. It seems like the consensus is that the only benefit is you won't have to buy any more air filters. No power gain to speak of.

Alright...here is what I have seen from past experiences. My dad bought a 1995 M3, that the previous owner took care of religously. this guy would send in the oil for an oil analysis at EVERY oil change, and he did believe in the K&N for Horse power reasons, but not so much for filtering capabilities, so he used his K&N for racing and autocrossing only. after an autocross, he forgot to put the stock paper filter in, and the Silica (road dirt) readings in his oil went up through the roof. he changed back to the paper filter, and the silica levels returned to normal on the next oil change.
because of that, I use my K&N on the track and autocrossing only, but for street driving, go with the paper filters.
