It's a good swap if you've got $3000+ laying around. Unless, of course, you've got access to a machine shop, are an experienced welder, and live at a junkyard.

So, that's a complete engine, pan to air cleaner, freshly rebuilt for $500? Does it come with all the accessories too? Even if it did, which it probably doesn't, you still have to mount it to something. Renegade Hybrids used to sell a kit to mate a Chevy small block engine to the 924 drivetrain. It was $2000. It also didn't come with anything related to the cooling system, throttle linkage, exhaust, wiring, etc. When I said that you'd need $3000, I meant from start to finish, including the cost of the engine. Chances are, you'll spend more than that, too. What do you need more power for anyway?

if he is saying $500 rebuilt it is probably not a professional rebuild and it has never been fired up to see if it even runs spend the extra money and get one that is professionally rebuilt and run and you had damn well be a good backyard mechanic

Here's an idea I've been toying around with for engine conversions on the 924. The snailshell torque tube is shorter, right? How much shorter?
What I want to try is getting a 944 inner shaft, and cutting off the clutch end and remachining it for Ford splines. Then putting the 944 driveshaft in a 931 snailshell torque tube, and attaching it to a Ford V8 and clutch.
I wanted to do this with a RX7, but it would be much easier with a 924.
