All of you who have paid someone to rebuild your 931 engines...How much did you get charged, how long did it take and what all did you have done? I'm contemplating rebuilding all of the major mechanical parts in my 1980 931 just to know what I am starting off with. I have had the car for almost 2 years and haven't had the money previously to do much with it. It runs strong and idles good, but smokes a little at idle (possibly from sitting). |

i have listed all the costs i have paid so far... try searching for my posts and you will find it. it's not cheap doing it yourself even, but it's cheaper than having somebody do it for you. it's time consuming too, and unless you have the know-how i strongly suggest making friends with somebody who knows mechanics.
when does it burn oil? if it's just when you start up, i believe that means it might be valve seals. if it's all the time, then it might be the piston rings. a simple compression test would tell you a lot about the state of your engine, and an emissions test wouldn't hurt either.
disclaimer - i'm not an expert.
good luck!
