Does anybody know if these are interchangeable? I know they are a weak point on the S1 but should I avoid buying an S1 manifold for an S2, or is it not a fit anyway? _________________ 924gt.com |

They are not interchangeable.
The S2 manifold is a circle in shape where it connects to the throttle body. The S1 manifold is an oval in shape where it connects. So you need a S2 throttle body for the S2 manifold and likewise for the S1.
You are better off buying an intercooler that will fit inplace of the intake manifold. Like one in the picture below. I found it on ebay for $20 US bucks. You would probably have to cut the hood and put on a scoop for fresh air.

I think he's talking about exhaust manifolds, not intake manifolds.
The exhaust manifolds are interchangeable. There is no point buying a S1 exhaust manifold, even in the highly unlikely event that you find one that isn't already cracked. Save your pennies for an S2. They can be had with a little persistence.
As for that intercooler, that appears to be a Ford Thunderbird Turbocoupe TMIC. I have one. It is too big to fit in the CGT location. The core is too thick. The RX7 unit is much closer to being workable, but the end tanks are on the wrong way around, so it would require completely custom inlet & outlet tanks to be welded on. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Ah that would make sense with NSA saying "weak point". I was sitting here wondering about a weak point with the intake. |

Please note that only LHD S2 is reinforced, S1 and RHD are different:

That's great, thanks. I didn't specify that it was an exhaust manifold I'm looking for. It makes sense that there's no point using an S1 manifold as a replacement, but I thought it was worth checking. There's one on Ebay UK for not a lot of money.
Hello Carl! It looks like your unit is going to be the one I need. I'll be in touch when the mechanic confirms whether I need one.
Thanks again for the help guys. _________________ 924gt.com |
