Ive been trying to locate a 77-79 outer door handle.
Anyone know it is the same spec as some VW mod/year?
I dont feel safe with the kids in the car if someone needed to get them out.

There's different handles for different years. I believe any similarity that you are referring to is the late ('80 and later) models.

Most definitely not the same as VW (of any year). Although you could mod it to fit, but it won't be too easy.

944´s handle is exactly the same as Golf II (Rabbit II).
Although VW´s are plastic.

You can demolish them to repair your original ones, also you can use VW´s handle seals. They are exactly the same but much cheaper.

Owning both, I'll make you a comparison photograph today that will delete this doorhandle myth.

Are you refering to the flimsy bit of plastic that unlocks the door? I do hope nothing bad happened?

Keep on cycling,
Regards, Harm.

I have a pair from a '77, one is chrome and the other flat black. Have both keys! Would need to know how much of the door mechanism you would need to make them work. It's all disassembled.

The part that is broken is the actual lever that you pull with your finger to open the door from the outside. It's cast aluminum so I cant weld it, and to complex a shape to make on my mill. I can drill out the rivet and use this part from any left or right, 77-79 , 924. So genadeiers part would work well for me. Let me know how much etc. I'm in a bit of hurry. Want to get it fixed before the wife needs to use the car (rarely, but I'll get an earfull if she needs it and that handle dosn't work!)

There is a description on the VW forum how to mod P handles to work on a VW and apparantly it works both ways.

But the VW handles are all plastic. I did not know that, bought a new VW handle on German ebay for €6.50, but it was made of .....PLASTIC

Alright, I see that the part number is the same for either side. 50 bucks, includes shipping and packaging, and the 12.5 miles to drive to town to the post office. First class shipping btw, and includes a key.

Get them from www.performanceproducts.com

Search your car year, make, and type in door handles.

I got a set here and they fit and work just like new.
