where is that smoke coming from?

why did the air intake cap blow off the fuel dizzy plate section?

pull the plugs and check if you are getting fuel on all spark plugs?

are all spark plugs firing?

what have you done recently ..ie when did it stop working?

STOP TRYING TO START IT!

I would say you have a timing issue there, spark and/or valve timing is out. Check them both before trying again. It is also probably flooded by now so take the plugs out and see if they are wet with petrol, also sniff the oil on the dipstick see if it smells of petrol too. If so it needs an oil change ASAP too.

None of it is hard to fix or check.

Cehck the plugs first, then oil then Cam timng then check spark timing

well this clip was taken after the timing had been fixed and the sparkies, etc seem to be all good, though i will check again. the car has been sitting for a few months, but the battery is fully charged now and i had a mechanic check things over( this was before the battery has been fully charged so was not much to see)
it seems the smoke was coming from the air flow sensor.
an incident similar to this was the reason it has been sittting for so long, as a few months back there was a bang from the air sensor with a bit of smoke, and i was only able to drive it when i had the revs up, as soon as they got to under 1rev it stalled on me..

I'd be willing to guess that the bang blew off or blew a hole in part of the intake plumbing.

Is all the pipework intact? Check the rubber boots really carefully - any tiny leaks can play havock.

Still reckon it's valve timing... Inlet valve open when the spark arrives and POP inlet backfire...

Checked the plugs yet?

Most likely a combination of timing and vacuum leaks, but always start with a compression test to rule out a leaking intake valve.

Don't try to start it now. Seems like you have an ignition timing issue.
Check the oil, if the level is higher than it was filled and smells like gas - change needed. Dry the plugs. Set the first cylinder in TDC and check the timing marks at crankshaft and camshaft, then check that you have distributor rotor pointing to first cylinder (your dizzy must have a mark at the body). If the marks at the pulleys are wrong, erset the timing belt. If the rotor and mark on the distributor are not aligned, unscrew the dizzy and reset.
Good luck and hope you'll start soon.

Ok thanks all,
would the timing also be the reason why it originaly kept stalling when ever the revs decreased?

Possibly.

As was suggested, start with a compression test. However after the plugs are out but before you start cranking check the timing alignment. Ensure that TDC line on flywheel aligns with pointer when piston is at TDC, using soft probe (straw, pencil). If it does not your flywheel is installed incorrectly.

Assuming that is OK, check cam timing pointer on cam cover lines up with dot on REAR of cam gear. It may be necessary to rotate the crank 1 full turn, 360*, by the crank pulley bolt.

Think you may have discovered a problem by now but if not then test comp on all 4 cylinders. Record dry and wet (oil) figures.
