I was thinking, and it's pure thought at this point, how hard would it be to sink in a V8 turbo from a 1992 928S into my 77 924? I only ask because I want power for my 924 and maybe put in another turbo charger on the engine. Is this even a tangeble idea to even attempt later on, or is it bat-crap crazy?

AFAIK, there were no OEM forced induction engines produced for the 928.

The 928 V8 will fit in the 924 engine bay. However, the biggest issues to overcome will be:
  1. Torque tube interface
  2. Motor mounts
  3. Front-to-rear clearance, particularly with the radiator
  4. Brake booster: relocation, elimination, or remote mountation
Those are the same primary challenges to solve with any V8 conversion. The 928 swap has certainly been discussed before. In many respects, it sort of defeats one of the primary purposes that people do V8 swaps into a 924, which is to put a cheap power plant with widely available parts and knowledge base into the car. The 928 motor is neither cheap nor does it have widely available parts or knowledge base (as compared to, for instance, a SBC, LT1 or LS1).

But it would be cool as you-know-what! If I ever get around to building my hybrid 928 motor and dropping it into the SH4RK, I'll have an extra 4.5L euro spec motor just WAITING for a recipient. Maybe it'll find a new home in a 924 chassis. Eventually. Maybe.

I don't think they were making the 928S in 1992. Weren't they on to the 928S4, GT and GTS by then?
