I want t o replace my fuel accumulator. I bought a used one.

The seller told me that he was good, but there is fuel inside the accumulator. When i remove the screw at the bottom, fuel is coming out.

Is this normal?

I was told it is shot if fuel comes out the bottom. That is the next part I am going to be taking off my car along with the second fuel pump since I got the in tank one out. I got 6 gallons of whiskey colored gas out so I am not holding out too much hope for it. If anyone has a accumulators for sale I am sure I will want it, just not it leaks of course.

I asked a firm who sells 924parts too. They say that it is normal.

One problem, different answers.

If fuel comes out of the screw side that means the internal diaphram is bad and leaking fuel. Get a refund.

That is normal, for a bad accumulator.

Recommend not asking them anything else.

Technically he didn't lie, as long as he wasn't leaking too.

The conclusion I've reached from my own observations is that the diaphragm starts to leak not because it's punctured, but simply because it becomes porous with time (20 yrs +).

Hence, it is a risky thing to buy a used accumulator of any vintage.

I think the only viable solution is to swallow the cost and buy a new one. I know 924 ones (with the different size connections) are hard to find. That is why I modified my pipe work to use the same size (larger) output connector so that VW (Golf) or Ford (ugh!) units can be used.

(BTW fitting a new (VW) accumulator solved my hot start problem.)
