I've found a decent engine, head, block and turbo - I'm wondering - anyone ever carry one in an economy car in the trunk? I've done it in a slightly larger car...any possible problems besides leakage?

I don't see why not. About 300 lbs dry if I remember correctly. No different that carrying a large corpse in the trunk. Just take it easy around corners and over speed bumps.

I've transported two dismantled 924 engines to the rebuilding shop in my fiat panda:

no problem at all.

A piece of 3/4" plywood placed first in the bottom of the trunk would distribute the weight..

That's excellent news, thanks. For the plywood, I have a skid that I can dismantle and use the pieces - I guess one of the risks is that without it I'll puncture the floor. Thanks!

you can also use the 924 to carry the engine...i've carried one 944 gearbox and TT with my 924...just take care it does not roll or punch trough the soft wall over the fuel tank.

Yeah busting up the car is one worry - I guess I don't have to be concerned about it pulling a wheelie with front wheel drive - still, no sharp corners and drive slow. lol

If I can get an old Rover gearbox in the passenger seat of my Elise the panda should be easy! (No passenger I hasten to add!) It's cavernous by comparison!

The car should be ok to transport an engine, as earlier mentioned, only about 300 lbs dry -- less than my mother-in-law.

I WOULD however, be very careful to tie it down properly. Otherwise, the first time you decelerate from 40-0, you'll find that engine still going 40 as it exits the front of the car through the windshield with you pasted onto the front of it...

Excellent thanks. I've got some rope and tie downs I can use.
