Hello all!
About two days ago my house got robbed and for some reason they took my only Porsche key my but not the car. So now Im stuck with a 924 that can't move. I called about 5 locksmiths and they said they could anything about it. Same with the porsche dealer. I Checked ebay for ignition sets but I only found one for a 88' 924 944. So is there anything I can do besides donate my car to the blind society? I just replaced the Head and the car is running great, I don't want it to go for waste.

Keep trying locksmiths. You'll get someone eventually. There's been a bit of chat lately about businesses that for whatever reason won't touch our cars. Eventually you'll get someone who'll understand its not like a ridiculously exotic or complicated car and work on it for you.
Don't give in yet. _________________ 77 NA 924

if the doors are locked use a coat hanger to pull up on the lock pin.
remove the exterior passenger door handle. take it in to the locksmith of your choice. tell them it's for a vw. they should be able to cut a new key within half a day max. I just did this and I got two keys for $30.
to remove the door handle, there is a phillips head screw on the vertical door jamb of the door itself. remove it. slide the handle forward and it will pop out of the two holes. be careful not to damage the gaskets. the handle will now be attached only by two plastic clips the connect the lock linkage and the latch linkage. you can remove these with some effort using dental picks, but you may find it easier to do by removing the door card and accessing from the inside of the door. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Lost my RX7 keys and a locksmith came in a van and made a new one from a blank in less than 30 minutes (using the hatch lock as a guide). I think it cost around $20. _________________ Toofah King Bad

You better disable your 924, the crooks might be waiting to come back and get it. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

Dont worry my Porsche is disabled its not going anywhere!
Some locksmiths told me that california passed a law saying they cant make car keys, only the dealer can.
I found someone about 2 hrs away from here and he claims all he needs from me is my model and VIN # and he can make me a key for $60.
does that sound legit to you guys?
thats my only option for now _________________ 80' Porsche 924 NA - Slower then a S L O W

Your vin determines what key your car originally had. Lots of dealers can make keys based on your vin.
