oil pressure gauge ???

The oil pressure gauge in my car pegs 5bars as so as I turn the the key I know that some thing is wrong but I don't know if it's in the sending unit or the gauge it self. I've heard that it's a common ouccurance. but I'm not sure what's happen. Oh the car's a 88 924S!
