I have no idea how to transplant an engine. I want to see if I can toss a V8 in my '79 924, but where would I go about finding a nice cheap one? Iv'e looked around but have had no luck whatsoever. _________________ 1979 Porsche 924- Snailshell

Look for oval track racers or people parting out old trucks.
Craigslist.org for your area, or if you're willing to drive a bit use crazedlist.org to search around your area.
Either way, search for SBC (small block Chevy) or SBF (small block Ford) or LS1 (for the Chevy LS1 small block)
Before you decide to buy, check out the Porschehybrids.com board and read up on the different types of small block V8s that are being swapped into place before you decide on what you want to buy. _________________ Stefan

Did you read all of my message? Go read it again.
The Dodge is heavy and doesn't have any support for the Porsche swap. Believe me, I'm a dodge fan, but I have to realistic and tell you that you'd be on your own.
The Ford is light and has great aftermarket support, but there were some fitment issues in the engine bay I believe.
Go do some RESEARCH on the PORSCHEHYBRIDS board on the V8 swaps they've accomplished and then go RESEARCH those V8s.
Just like the wheel thread, I'm not going to do the work for you. Use Google, use the built-in search feature for this board and the Porsche swap board mentioned above then come back and post when you have more specific questions.
In the end, I'd say just go find a blown up 944 or 924S and buy a swap kit from http://www.renegadehybrids.com/ combine it with an LS1 from a Camaro or a Corvette and enjoy. _________________ Stefan

A Chevy would be the easiest because of the support. As fiat22turbo said, check out the porschehybrids board http://www.porschehybrids.com/php/
There is everything you will need to know along with parts that are now available to do the swap. We (Porschehybrids board) have gotten Quicktime bellhousings to make an adapter bellhousing (now in their catalog P/N RN-6033) http://www.quicktimeinc.com/products.html and there are some that make the pilot bearing adapter and motor mounts. These are all available for the GenI & II and the LSx engines.
Renagade Hybrids does not offer a kit for the non-LSx engines anymore so the board guys are it.
There is info on radiators, exhaust, headers (Sanderson makes block huggers that are bolt on for gen I & II) hydroboost brakes, brake upgrades, suspension upgrades, wheels and tires, transaxles, etc. There is also a guy there that has a V8 924 and another with a Grand National V6 powered 924. |

I got to check out a 944 with a chevy swap just two days ago, very nicely done using what i believe are the renegade bits, with a finely crafted adapter plate for the torque tube. the power was impressive.... _________________ Eric
