In the next couple of weeks i will be getting a new exhaust system on my toofah...looking to make it sound a bit meatier and match the CGT looks

Just curious to see what some of you have on your cars and if you could recommend a particular set up?
Also if anyone has any sound/video clips that would be great!

Cheers,
G

After removing your cat Meneer how did your car perform, better or worse? How much back pressure do these cars need to perform?

your car sounds good
hmm sorry for being such a noob to this thing but i have a few mates with 911's whos cars "crackle", something also that scorpios car does. I think it sounds great and would like to have my car doing the same.
Does anyone elses car 'crackle'?
Do you know what setup is required for this?
thanks

I have a turbo style muffler made by dynamax. i like it alot.. it is not too loud, but very sporty. On Hot days the exhaust crackles a little bit, if you downshift or rev it up real quick.

The crackle or popping is typically due to running hot/lean - can be timing as much as fuel adjustment.

It'll typically occur on cars with not the best fuel control systems - lesser EFI systems, and carbs, for example - that dump unneeded fuel out the pipe on lifts.

Our CIS system doesn't usually have this problem, so it's atypical to have much popping out the exhaust. I agree, it sounds cool as hell, but it isn't actually right to have such things happening...

Same goes for flames shooting out the tailpipe - as often seen on turbos and NASCRAP cars. Looks impressive, but personally I'd rather be burning that stuff inside my engine, where it'll make power! There's a reason it's called an Internal Combustion Engine, after all...

thanks for your post....good points there

while what you are saying makes sense....it would be interesting to find out what set up scrorpio has..is it his exhaust system or fuel setup?
because his cracks and pops a fair bit

Also i was talking to a mate today who said that an aftermarket resinator can make a car do that...any truth??

ill double check under the car tomorrow..but it was definately not running lean or hot..the CIS was in great condition

Mine runs a split system about halfway under the body there is a Y connection splitting the exhaust into two pipes...i have a feeling the secondary muffler(think thats what its called) was removed.

Sounded like an apache helicopter on roids!!

I think that no matter what you do you will only gain a few HP. I tried them all. I liked the split downpipe with duals the best but it was too loud for NY and an old guy like me. I did not want the attention as my motor would not pass inspection if I got stopped.
You should really think of what you are trying to achieve as to sound, back pressure or looks.
I liked the sound and the looks of duals with Suppertrapp caps on the ends that you could move the power curve around a little. Add plates to make it louder or remove them to make it quieter. If you look at the pics Peter entered this past week of my car you will see what I mean.

For the cost of a different exhaust I would put the money in the suspension. Then again it is only my opinion.

its not the cat (i have no cat at all)..doesn`t need in the netherlands (only from 1992 or early if it says on your paper of the car).

With this first silenr/muffler removed, the engine revs more freely and felt stronger on the 0-100 km/h run. Its now over 8,5 seconds 0-100.

I would wrap all those wires with something to protect them from heat.

What gauge are the spark plug wires? They seem thin. I run 8mm.
