Has any one tryed Lindsey Racing's MAF on their 924S or their intake manifold http://www.lindseyracing.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=LR&Category_Code=944INTAKELINDSEY
I was wondering what kind of gains could be made. I know the age old question is how can I add more power to my 944 motor. I know how. I am just wondering how much power is the 87 924S motor capable of reliably producing and still keeping it leagal for most compititions.
I have been verry impressed with the performance improvements I have from performace spark plug wires and have been thinking again about puting a new chip in the car and other performance upgrades. _________________ Red 1987 924S with plans for D Productions Kit

It's a waste of money if you ask me.
You're better off buying standalone EMS (Megasquirt, VEMS, Electromotive etc) and tuning it.
If you want more power still, adapt bike ITB's and get THE BEST intake possible on NA engine. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Might want to check in over at Rennlist or Pelican. When I was at 944Fest, I saw a handful of NAs that were running the LR MAF stuff, so they could probably give you real-world anecdotes. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

The MAF kit includes a custom intake air metering system and requires a Mafterburner Power Perfect Piggy Back Fuel Controller http://www.lindseyracing.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=LR&Category_Code=944MASSPOWERPERFECT
It would cost around $1,000 for the whole MAF set up but I would like to know what kind of real horse power would I gain. If I were to go cheep I might as well just get a well programed chip.
What about peformance exhast and mufflers are these worth the extra money? I would like to get 180 to 210 horse power out my 924S. I know the 87 motor was like detuned a bit or something so isn't there a way to get that extra power that was added to the 944 and 924S in the 88 model? _________________ Red 1987 924S with plans for D Productions Kit

On a stock engine the MAF kit wont do much maybe a little better throttle response, Im Running Huntlery RAcings MAF and have been for 6 years or so, IT works for me but I also have a modded engine. The LR intake has not been tested on NA's yet, at least this is what LR told me when I asked about it. In 1988 the 944/924S got boosted from a 9.5CR to a 10.2CR this was done with different pistons and was good for about 10-15HP. It cost alot of money to build a NA engine, If I were you start simple, Right now there is NO WAY your gonna out flow your AFM with a stock engine, So I Would just get a chip a header and a catback exhaust, maybe even a better camshaft. After that then you will need to really open the engine up to make more power _________________ Rebuild COMPLETED, Many mods, better power, Just ask for info |

Start with camshaft and Megasquirt, if you do all work yourself, you it will cost you around 1200 usd. If you have another 500-600 to spend, buy some bike ITB's from ebay for around 100-200 and trumpets, fab them together (there's info about it in this board also, though for 2.0 but same principles apply) and install to your car.
This is the most cost-effective way to extract more power without forced induction. This kind of setup won't give you much BLING, but power. With proper tuning, Milledge cam and ITB's, near 200 hp is possible. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

So basically useing like bike carbs? I'm not sure how that would work on the 2.5L as it has a big air meter box. if you unplug it the car does not run.
I like the look thow. kind of like the D/Ps _________________ Red 1987 924S with plans for D Productions Kit

I have heard of putting webbers on 914s is there a kit for the 944 motor?
I'm thinking about Starting with the exhaust and a chip. I was thinking of going with LR 3" all the way
down. I am running with the early 944 exhaust manifold
I see there are some very reasonably priced cat back performance systems too. _________________ Red 1987 924S with plans for D Productions Kit

I would wager that the stock FI flows as well as Webers, with better fuel management.
Maybe you should consider a blower. . .there seem to be some decent kits out there. _________________ Toofah King Bad

That 3" exaust won't give you anything else than loud noise from NA engine. Going Webers will kill your fuel mileage and are crap in driveability and STILL produce less power than engine management.
Why are you guys refusing to take advice that helps you and want no matter what use options that doesn't result any reasonable gain in power but cost a fortune?
I guess if you just want to try out everything by yourself, it's ok, but if you seriously want to make your car faster, it's better to use someone elses experience and not make the mistakes others have made. I guess that's the best bang for the buck tuning. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Ok now I am confused. I thought I read in another post that the webbers gave the same results as the bike carbs.
As for the exhaust I thought I had recently read performance exhaust and a chip are the first place to start for
upgrading these cars.
but your saying 3" is to big? just go with a low resistance muffler than? I know back pressure has to be just
right or these cars loose power. _________________ Red 1987 924S with plans for D Productions Kit

I wasn't talking about ANY type of carbs before, nor bike neither weber.
ITB's are Individual Throttle Bodies that can be found on bikes equipped with EFI. They have TPS sensor and fuel injector bosses and it will be relatively easy to adapt to any car. They will give a car the best response possible. Using them though requires standalone engine management. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Yes 3" exhaust is way to big for your car, Thats a good exhaust for 951's. As for performance exhaust I mean a good header and a good catback thats about the same DIA as stock just less restrictive. You might want to look into MAxtune, You can tune your own fuel curve and timing and it comes pre loaded with 4 different maps to work with. People have posted good results on rennlist. I believe a 12hp gain on the dyno and a better torque curve is what some one posted.

Thanks for the link. and info. I had bee looking at the Power PROM2. http://frwilk.com/pprom/pp2.htm
I am happy with my header. It is cast iron from an early 944. Some claim that they flow better then the stock 924 S
manifold. So I guess I am just looking for a new performance muffler or cat back.
the ITB's sound interesting. I will have to do some more reading up on them. _________________ Red 1987 924S with plans for D Productions Kit
