hello. i have a 1979 924 in which i removed the fuel injection and intake then fabricated a new intake to mount a 4 barrel. i cut back the exhaust to the y and welded in 2 a half inch exhaust with a chambered muffler. Are there any other uprgades i can perform? like a bigger cam? ported head? I havent had the engine dynoed but it feels like the power is much better mid to high rpm. I also get better fuel mileage. I'm using a 625 cfm carter avs 4 barrel. any hepl would be appreciated. thank you!

Reader's Digest Version:
- integral cams hot street grind
- work on your suspension
- not much to be gained from porting the head
- send the head to European Motorworks for big-valve rebuild
- pull the engine and replace the pistons with Euro specs

Somewhat longer version:

I installed 15 in. aluminum rims from an '84 fox body mustang. perfect backspacing, correct bolt pattern, and they were 20 bucks each at the local junk yard. 225/50r15s are a good fit. Just a little info for anyone who wants it. they make 16's for the mustang with that bolt pattern as well.

Git some pics, and add to the wheel thread - http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=21373

Thats a very cool mod MrJoshua! I have always thought about doing just what you did and am really thinking about doing it for my current race car.

I was planning to do this over the winter with a 2 barrel carb meant for a 3L engine so I wouldn't over fuel it. A 625 carter is a BIG carb. You must have some really small jets installed?

Some pictures of your carb/intake would be awsome! I bet your not having any hot start issues!

What are you running for a fuel pump?

WE NEED PICTURES!

the wheels are 4 x 4 1/4 bolt pattern, any fox body mustang from '82 to '92 will work. unfortunatly i am having an issue figuring out how to post pictures.[/img]

yes it is a big carb. fortunatly the fuel metering system is based on engine vaccum and is easy to adjust by changing springs needles and seats withought taking apart the carb, or removing it from the engine. you can buy the carb brand new as an edlebrock avs in different cfm ratings plus they offer a complete tunning kit. also making my own intake and using this carb will make it easier to say throw on a weind 177 cfm roots type blower. i did have to clearance the hood for the air cleaner, which i coverd with a 2" cowl induction scoop. ive been razzed about it but i like the way it looks. the fuel pump is just a local parts store off the shelf 7 psi.i do run a pressure regulator though at 4 psi. no hot start problems, plus easy cold weather starting.

How did you got those rims to fit?
Which size they are? 15x?
Did you use any spacer for the front?

Thanks

Looks like a decent job. I was thinking of just modding the stock intake to be able to bolt on a carb. Looks like a good winter project.

rims are 15x7 no spacers. actually made an adapter for the original manifold. didnt work so well. i bolted it to the throttle plate opening, way too restrictive for the four barrel. two barrel might be better. i was thinking of making an adapter for a single sidedraft weber. we will see.

dual sidedraft manifolds can be found occasionally rather cheap.
