Okay, I sure this has probably been asked before, but I couldn't find anything on it with a forum search.

Has anyone ever transplanted 931 drivetrain into a 924? Before anyone asks why, lets say theoretically, with a nice 924, and a complete engine, clutch, torque tube and tranny out of a 931(but no 931), is there any reason why it wouldn't work?

I know the 931 uses different motor mounts, but those are easy enough to fabricate. I know the 931 uses a hydraulic clutch, so that would be taken care of.

No reason why it shouldn’t engine mounts etc are the same, if you’ve got the rear torsion bar carrier as well then this makes it easier as you have the gearbox mounts as well. One of my race cars is a Mixture of 924/931 body shells (front of one, rear of another and to make it even better one was left hand drive and the other right hand drive) car is now set up as a right hand drive 931. You have to fool around with fuel lines, exhaust, electrical connections to get it all to work and possible change the radiator to a slightly larger unit but it’s an easier option than putting a 944 motor into a 924 or 931.

Great! Exhaust is no problem, the electrical shouldn't be a problem, I can get the whole harness and everything.

Now the big issue will be going from an Audi NA 5 speed, to a G31 snailshell.

The car is a 81 NA, so what sort of issues would there be specific to this car?

You should contact David Frank. You can find some info about his 924 to quasi-Carrera replica here. Also, you can email him at vortxrex@yahoo.com.
