first car i drove after passing my test was a 1987 911 targa supersport .. (not mine.. obviously.. ) have also covered a few miles in a 1980 911sc .. and a few others.. (ahh, the days of having an interesting job ...)
The amount of flak i got off other drivers in those cars makes anything ive had to put up with from the anti-924 lobby pale into insignificance*..
that, and the fact that the '87 targa was so slow off the mark it got beaten away from the lights (upto 40mph-ish) by just about every boy-racer who tried it (all of them) means i can kinda understand why 911 drivers have a chip on their shoulder.. lol ..
i wouldnt want a 911 anyway.. having driven a few i can state without doubt that if i bought one it would end up backwards in a ditch
*actually very little ... most folks ive encountered seem to like my toofah. _________________ 6 bikes, 9 cars, 1 van.... the more you have the less they work. |

By my second day of DE I was keeping up with an 80'S 911 Targa at WGI. My instructer says he can pass them in his 88 924S.
I have gotten alot of respect from PCA members. I have run into a few 911 owners who like to poke fun and joke about us water cooled owners but it is all in fun.
I have run into a few boxter owners that have no clue but the gues in the older 911s almost always honk, wave or flash their lights at me.
The funny thing is aren't all new Porsche water cooled now? _________________ Red 1987 924S with plans for D Productions Kit

I say screw them all. I have never shunned anyone as I have always had 911s since '69. At one time I had 5 Porsches and I spoke and kidded everyone.
Ask them what their monthly payments are. Then walk away. I usually tell them I have a 924, then slip in a 931 which they don't know what it is and then finally about the 911.
I hate elitism.
And no one email me either unless you have a 911. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

Same. Only negative comments I've received have been from non-Porsche driving people. You have a 924? Ohhh, that's not a real Porsche. 911 Targa. blah blah blah. On the street I get flash / waves from Vette drivers, older 911s, Boxters, and the total of four 944s in town. Kind of cool having the only running 924.
By the way, after getting a 944 I have realized that in some rather particular ways the 924 is actually better -- fewer luxury options = less things to break + less weight to lug around. And there's the obvious durability advantage of having a non-interference motor. Plus it seems to handle better. I only wish I could get it to start in cold weather
Generally the snobbery comes from people who think the cars are status symbols. Silly -- they're meant to be driven, he said! _________________ 1977.5 924 "Martini" head / New Old Stock rebuild

911 Targa! Blerchg!
A 924 with a cold start problem in Alaska - that must be really tough! _________________ 1985 Porsche 924 'Lux', Kalahari Beige (my ex)

Hm, weird. I´ve tried mine at -18 C and it started without trouble. Is your fuel pressure as it should? And the cold start systems, do they work ? _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

Oh, come on. actually it will start up, but doesn't have any heat to speak of. Summer tires. I'll fix all that after I sell the 944, ha ha. Thanks for the concern! _________________ 1977.5 924 "Martini" head / New Old Stock rebuild

I went into a local parts store today to pick up some new Bosch plat plugs and had a short conversation with the fat ass behind the counter. When I told him what the plugs were for his comment was, "oh, the Porsche that's not really a Porsche". I was already in a bad mood before he said that and I said "what do mean not really a Porsche?" He says, "you know, the engine is in the wrong end of the car and it's water cooled."
So...I noticed he was driving a Chevy Prism. I asked him, "how do like your Geo?" He said, "no it's a Chevy". I had to remind him that his Chevy Prism really wasn't a Chevy but actually a Geo. And just to rub salt in the wound I told him that my car is alot more of a Porsche than his is a Chevy.
Other than that idiot, I've passed a few 944's and older 911's and they always wave or flash. They all give a thumbs up when I tell them how old the ol toofah is. _________________ Michael

Ya just gotta roll with guys like that.
I've had similar encounters. Like, what does the guy think he's going to get from you? A good reaction? He has to know he's being a dick.
Today was a good one though - needed 6 metric 45 hex bolts for my WUR. The guy at Home Depot found the part just fine. They're a great Porsche outlet. _________________ 1980 924 turbo, MSD, Meth. Inj, otherwise stock. |

You got lucky at HD, IMO - I usually find them horrendously disorganized and hard to find anything I need, especially fasteners! I find Lowe's to be MUCH cleaner/neater, and with a better metric stock besides...
As for the douche at the parts counter... you could always ask him what his management would think about his practice of insulting customers' cars... that'll probably shut him right the hell up!! Of course, if it doesn't - and you want to push the point - suggest you both go together and find out... _________________ Vaughan Scott

A few shots from our 1st. annual Spring Break meet last weekend, as you can see I'm picky who I run with.
