Filled the fuel tank about 3/4 full the other day at lunch, and then started driving it home in the evening. About a mile from the office, the car started hesitating and acting very sluggish for a couple of miles. It seemed to clear up and regain power, but then I got the very distinct odor of gasoline (not exhaust) in the passenger compartment for a while.
Any ideas?

| Does the car make power in the upper RPM range? My car acted similar when part of the cat had broken off and blocked the exhaust. Dont know about the gas smell though. |

so is the car running ok now? do you still have the exhaust smell? this will help explain the problem a little more...
By stating that you had just filled up, i'm guessing you thought there might be somethin in the gas, which it very well could be. But if that were the case, the car should not have cleared up a little while later. Bad gas would also not explain the gas smell.
If i'm not mistaken the charcoal canister is located in the passenger fron wheel well, and its a common occurence for them to go bad and leak fumes (there shouldnt be too much liquid in them, if any).
as far as the failing cat goes, wouldnt you also notice a change in exhaust note? or not? _________________ -Jason

You need to check your fuel lines. If there is a leak it may very well cause your smell and the hesitating. It could also be your fuel filter causing it to run bad during the lower RPM's. Does it run good at higher RPM's? _________________ 1988 924S: Koni fully adjustables, Short shift kit, head work, exhaust, K&N, Jacobs ignition, Larger Injectors, Performance Chip, 928 wheels with cooper Zeon tires, Momo interior, Etc.....
