This was also what Khal's 931 did when he blew a head gasket.

'Tis true. But mine did it on cold-start. And I had another classic blown head gasket symptom, some white-ish smoke from the exhaust.

With others reporting similar symptoms, and nary a peep about blown head gaskets, I'd suspect the fuel system, too.

I've seen this exact problem on a BMW E21 (same fuel system) that definitely did not have a blown head gasket...

Could also be those two injectors leaking after shutdown and flooding those two cyls.

Grrr...I haven't had a chance to check the injectors yet. This cold is really kicking my ass...

And it really sucks that the CIS system is so problematic...I guess I;m really lucky that I took the time and spent the extra cash to seek out a good example of an early 924, or I'm sure i'd be in Porsche hell right now!

It's not so bad; once you learn to live with it!

Yeah, I don't think it's all that problematic. Its a bit sensitive to vacuum leaks and dirty fuel, but once you have it dialed in it runs pretty damn well.

I wonder how many millions of cars it was installed on?

OMG I HAVE GOOD NEWS!

After the car almost wouldn't start in the mall parking lot, I got aggravated enough to check my injectors...

I started the car and immediately shut it down, then ran to the engine bay to listen. I could hear a spraying noise coming from the injector area...so I pulled out #3...dry...then I pull out #2...and it is hissing like crazy and smells of gas really bad. So I found my problem!

Does anybody have a few used injectors, that don't leak laying around they could sell me?

Ozzie: Awesome link, thanks! I am guessing you used those injectors on your 924?

Can anyone verify that those injectors will work in my 77'?

Alright, I ordered those injectors...hopefully they will be here soon...

Is it safe to say that this injector problem is the reason I have been smelling lots of fuel after any amount of acceleration? (My fuel smell is definitely coming from outside the car, with my windows down, the smell is almost intolerable...) I'm also hoping this will solve my ~13MPG problem.

Your mileage should get better, but you may also have a leak at the filler neck. Do a search for more details.
