|
|
You'll need from a 944:
1. the rear sway-bar
2. the removable portion of the mounting brackets that hold the bushings to the torsion bar housing
3. the bushings
4. the "dog-bone" drop links and bolts
5. the exteneded eccentric adjusting bolts that hold the sway-bar to the trailing arms.
All can be seen below:
Now you'll need 2 very solid 3.5 inch guillotine clamps to go around the torsion bar housings. You'll need to drill holes inbound of the stock holes on the guillotine clamp brackets. Then pass bolts from inside the guillotine clamp bracket through the holes you drilled. These bolts are where you will secure number "2" from the picture above. You can then mount the sway-bar to the torsion bar housings using these clamps:
You should play around with the orientation of the guillotine clamps on the torsion bar housings until the "dog-bone" drop links are perpendicular to the ground with the car off jack stands.
This is the easiest way to mount a rear sway-bar to a non-equipped 924. Weltmeister even makes a kit to do it, but you are basically paying $200 US for a couple of 3.5 inch clamps. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

please post the part numbers to these parts.
also, if you get the factory 19mm sway, do you also have to get the optional 21.5 front sway to balance out the car's suspension? |

if you go for an 19mm in the rear I would go for an 26.8 or 30mm
An 968 orignal has 26.8 front, 16mm rear, 968 M030 is 30 front, 19mm rear. _________________ 937 trackday car

I am looking to keep my car 100% stock.
But I am willing to gain performance through factory options.

I am running the M471 23 mm with the 19 in the rear, and it is pretty well balanced.
Also, as an alternative, you can hack the factory mounts from a junkyard car and weld them on. This gives you a nice seating surface for the bushing, and allows the bar to lay closer to the torsion bar carrier, which in turn makes it easier to obtain the correct geometry. _________________ Toofah King Bad

how were the factory mounts installed onto the 924? I am not talking about the part where there wishbone goes on.
I own a 87 924s. Looking for stock factory options mine didn't come with. |

Um, factory rear sway bar mounts were welded to the torsion bar carriers. _________________ Toofah King Bad

is it possible to remove the torsion bar carrier on a donor and have it as a straight bolt-on upgrade? |

I would think so, but it is quite a PITA to dismantle the rear suspension that far. _________________ Toofah King Bad

May be a PITA, but it's a 30 to 60 minute job once the car is up on stands. This assumes the donor includes the brake and hub assemblies. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

Whiteline sell brackets to mount the rear swaybar - KU3 universal fits the best, and you can use 14mm poly bushes with it...
they also sell drop links for the rear bar... in s link and heim joint with adjustable length...
drop links for the front bar
and a 933, 18mm rear sway bar....

Hey, too funny!!! No, I only have the bar and the torsion tube bushings, I re-used all the other hardware on my car when I went to the 19mm rear sway bar. I'm sure someone here will have the remaining bits and pieces. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |
