I recently bought my 1st porsche, a 1980 924.
I was just looking in the driver's side front wheel well and noticed hoses dangling. Turns out there is supposed to be a charcoal canister there (it's not).
Car was driving alright - how bad is it that this isn't hooked up? Is there any potential for damage?

I haven't really driven the car too much since buying it but I have no idea how much the previous owner did.

thanks...

Not a tremendous chance, but still there. The hose to the rear goes to the fuel tank vent line. So you have the potential to get dirt into the fuel system. The hose to the front goes through a vacumn control valve into the intake plenum but after the filter so you are introducing dirt there. Not a lot in either case, still... I would at least connect the two together. If you can find a charcoal canister used you could put it back on. It makes no performance difference. In some locales you may need it for emissions testing.
