I am in the final stretch of installing the motor in my 931. However, I did not pull the engine and I'm a newbie with the turbo's! Can anyone tell me where these lines connect to. I'm at a loss! This is like putting a puzzle together blindfolded!

Easy - #1 connects to #3 and #2 is your oxygen sensor wiring - did you not notice the empty threaded hole in your downpipe where the o2 sensor goes?!
But... #1 should actually connect directly into the head and the Y connection in #3 should be removed. Do a search for "turbo breather update" or such and you'll find the discussion of it.
Make sure the braided hose from the crankcase is clear and also the line off the bottom of the air/oil separator that goes into the oil pan. The top of that line where the hose necks down gets rusty and clogged. Also, pop off the nipple it connects to and clean out the metal mesh.
I also see that you used an allen-head bolt on one of the turbo-manifold bolts. At the very least you need to coat that bolt with a hi-temp anti-seize (all those bolts actually). Even better is to replace it with a 17mm hex bolt and a steel spacer to raise the head of it above the manifold so you can get a socket on it.
And have fun _________________ 1980 931S

Stuff a rag into the outlet of the turbo before something falls in there.
Also sometime in the past, or maybe even now, the rear seal on your brake master cylinder leaked. Your booster may have brake fluid in it. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

Also the orange valve cover seal looks like it is installed incorrectly. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

Thanks for the inputs! It always helps to have a second, even third set of eyes, never caught the valve cover and the Brake booster leakage. Went back and looked, can't believe I missed those! |
