I'm planning on moving back to Germany in September, but before that, I wanna go see Britain for a week. Don't know why, but I've always wanted to see it. I haven't booked a flight yet or anything but I will start checking into it soon. What are some places you guys would recommend seeing?

I spent almost every summer in England as a kid, my grandparents lived in Lincoln, I've seen most places in England and Scotland. If you want your mind blown, you have to see Stonehenge. I know it is "touristy", but seriously, it will shock you to see it in person. Other than that, with a week I would spend a couple days in London, see the Tower and the British Museum, take a bus tour of the city as well. Then head south west to Penzance, Lands End and Cornwall, amazing part of the country and really nice in the summer. That will eat up most of a week. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan

Chrenan,
Psst... Cornwall is South West. Go south east and you'll be in my back garden
Seriously tho, as Chrenan says, London is a must. I was away 7 years and didn't recognise the skyline.
Stonhenge is well worth it, in a weird, awe inspiring way.
Problem is, with just a week to play with, you must pick and choose carefully.
Wwhatever you do, enjoy!!!

Ya, I was thinking Stonehenge, but that was the most obvious thing to go see. I'll definitely check out London, though.

I understand that there are roads in Wales that are among the best in the world. Renting one of the smaller sportier cars available there but not here and spending a day or two cruising could be fun. With a rental car you might have trouble getting a stick-shift, that could put a damper on things.

Isle of Man!!! That's were I'll go. You reminded me of that. As for rental cars, how old do you have to be to rent a car in Britain?

If you want proper roads your best bet is to pick a "proper" car club, (one that focuses on driving not neons, bling or big chrome alloys) near where you are going and ask them.
As for a week sight seeing, London i probably the easiest as there is so much in the area.
Remember though that London is not representative of the rest of the UK!! _________________ 1994 Lotus Esprit S4 - Work in progress...

Coincidence;
Going to the UK on the 30th July for nearly 2 weeks.
Going to visit many places, museums, castles, Stonehenge. etc.
Staying with a member of the Porsche 924 Owners Club (UK) in Leicestershire.
Should be good times. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

If you're in Leicestershire, perhaps you should pop up to Nottinghamshire and check out Sherwood forest, its not that far...
My fave place is the Lake District, has to be seen, but a good three hour drive from Leics...
My bro (and our 931 project) live in Leics _________________ 1998 BMW Z3 2.8 arctic silver & red

That should be OK, by Canadian standards that is a very short road trip... _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |
