I know this is basic maintenance, and I shouldn't have to ask this, but it has been a long time since I did this to a car. I've been driving 4x4s for years. I've had my car ('87 924S) 2 years now, and I know this needs to be done.

Can someone tell me how long it will take to repack or replace the bearings? Is the Haynes manual good enough guidance? Any tips from someone who has done it a few times? I don't need a complete description of the process, but if you know tricks/tips that would be great. I know that this must be done correctly, and I don't want to get it wrong.

Thanks!

The rear wheel bearings are sealed, and are replaced, not serviced, when they run dry. I don't think there is any service interval scheduled, only replace when indicated.

It should not take you any more than (1) hours to service both sets of front wheel bearings, and replace the seals.

Don't forget that you need to inspect and retension the timing and balance shaft belts every 10K miles, and replace them every 3 years, or 30K miles. The alternative is a broken belt, and replacement cylinder head or engine.

If you don;t haver any record of when the cv joints were last repacked, you should do them as well.
