| I can not vouch for all of GT racings inventory, but the carerra fender flares I bought from them were really quite poor quality. The drivers side looked ok, except for the uneven sanding on the edge that contacts the body, and some ugly chipping along that edge as well. The passengers side was full of hair cracks around the edges, One of which was a very big open crack that went clear through the fiberglass located at the lower rear portion of the flare. THe thickness was generally uneaven, especially apparent along the edges of the wheel well curve. The ratio of resin to glass cloth was also not consistant with the drivers side. In several places loose fibers were sticking out from lack or resin. Several hours laying more fiberglass, and very careful sanding to straighten the edges, gave me useable flares. Im not calling them completely terrible, there just aint 310 dollars there. If I had a choice I would try to find another source for these flares. |

Did you call them to let them know? Fiberglass race panels are not known for high-quality construction. That's come up a number of times with Carrera GT bits. _________________ 1980 931S

Yeah, I concur, I just received a turbo nose piece that came from them and was disappointed with the amount of work I'll have to do to make it usable...

FWIW, I ordered some ultra wide body rear quarter panels from AIR (American International Racing), and the quality is excellent. I believe they also have Carrera GT kits available. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Part of my motivation of buying Neil's old car was to start producing my own GT kit at a bit cheaper price (I can do that since I have a low over head) $1400.00cdn vs GT's kit at 1850.00 USD
With that being said I am leary due to the fact that the fenders don't fit the doors 100%. The gap is ok, But the the fender sticks out past the door by 4-5 mm. The passengers side is better with a 2mm difference..but thats because the hood gap is too close there. This could be fixed..but it will be alot of work!
If you had problems with actual fibers being at the surface of the part..that was caused by the maker not using enough gelcoat in the mold. When your making a part you need to apply at least 8 mils of gelcoat before you lay your first layer of fiberglass down.
They also could have gotten fibers to the surface by not letting the gelcoat harden/dry properly before laying the first layer. Essentialy pushing it through the soft Gelcoat.
Could you tell if the parts are hand laid or are all the strands of fibers random....if they are hand laid you can see the edge from a "roll" of mat fiberglass. _________________ 1976 924

Was wondering how you were going to get them grilles in a N/A nose. Now I nose.
How much is the glass nose shipped here? Not a good fit or finish or what?
Might have to get some more now.

Heh, nice detective work Roger...!
I got the GT gear from a guy in Belgium who bought one then changed tack with his projects. It's never been fitted and is mostly OK, just some rough edges etc as described above. Havent tried a dry fit yet. The nose was cheap but shipping from Belgium was 50 euros...
Can you FG? Do we go halves in those moulds on ebay?

I'll second the AIR nomination. I picked up a set of CGT rear flares and a hood scoop from them a month or two ago and they are of decent quality according to my body shop. Have not begun to have them fitted but pleased with the service and quality.
Have never purchased from GT Racing, and probably never will based on others experiences. Sounds like they take no pride in their work and that just does not earn my $$$. |

Porschev: My front fender were made as a two piece part. There is an inner part that bolts to the firewall/door pillar and the outer panel. It is poosible the these weren't aligned properly before fiberglassing in place.
It's also possible if the panel was produced as a one piece part that the inner bolt holes wereen't made in the right spot.

Cool. Bargain too considering you dont get much change from 1K from porsche.
Depends on how many hours it takes to make fit well but Im sure youll have it looking good. Did U know the nose panel is spotted on? Like to see a pic when its done, or even before.
Fibreglass, resin, messy, sticky, itchy, yucky, smelly stuff. Dont want to make them but may buy one or even contribute to a group buy if other Aussies are interested.
Lets see how much demand there is. If it was viable to produce these commercially here do U think he`d be selling the moulds?

For those of you who read my post regarding the rear flares will remember that I said that they did not fit properly. As a result I glued and then used screws to hold them on. You then have to use body filler to close the gap if you have any.
I would use 944 fenders for the front and not buy the FG ones. They fit well and all you have to worry about are the flares and the rocker panels.
The rocker panels are more trouble than the flares. You have to make them as Porsche never molded them and rather hand made them.
The GT flares are two piece units which are glued together. The part that you adhere to the body is a 2 in strip that may not fit too well. You will have to sand where needed and in some cases bent to fit the wheel well.
This should really hurt you. Yes, Mathilda you may want to cut the wheel wells up 3 in. or you will see them under the flares. Questions? Email me. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

I have been talking to Jason who is selling the stuff on ebay and he is selling them because he has a porsche restoration business and wants to concentrate more on the 911 stuff.
I am willing to throw my $$$ in the ring as the last set of molds I looked at would have cost me around $3000
