. . .one for each of those four plastic plugs that the injectors thread into. All four were finger tight!

Something to check next time you have occasion to have your pressure tube off. . .

Erm. . .no, as there was no sign of old sealant I didn't think of it. What would you use, something like non-hardening black Permatex?

just a tiny bit of non hardening silicone on the threads, not too much though.

Well, a new head is on my list for the summer, so I'll do it then. . .might even pop in a new set.

Avoid using silicone as much as possible in the intake area as it's no good for things like o2 sensors and cat converters. I used teflon pipe dope- http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=21230&start=3
The torque spec is there also.

Yeah, in the old days I used to use this black non-silicone, non drying Permatex stuff, but I just looked over their wegbsite and couldn't find it. . .I must be getting old.

Try going to the VW parts counter and ask for Hylamar. Wurth developed this stuff for intake systems. It never hardens and is extremely tacky, blue in color. I use it on my 944 spec motors with much success.
