it depends on what you are speaking about. But mainly yes 9.5 is too much.
some 9.5 weels will have trouble fiting under a slim 924 body.(depends on the weel ofcourse)
9.5 weels need wide tires...the NA will get a hard time with 245 on the rears
thats my opinion. and what i can say from personal experience is that before my 5 bolt conversion i had 185/65/14 tires and i could smoke them and when i wanted to have a good launched start i had to rev it up to 3000 RPM...anything over 3k would have spined the weels like crazy.
NOW i have 205/60/15 and i can say that i can have a good launch at 4500 RPM. I think that this puts more stress on the tranny and the engine. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

Tire choice gives alot of play though 9.5 is wide
they wouldnt fit no matter what tire you used.
Hey what shall I use to get this hard silver original
paint off the pint stripper isnt working.. over at
pelican parts they said to use an aircraft paint stripper
guess Ill look in that direction.
I dont really want to sand it off theres risk on
having rim gouging.

The small sand blast gun worked just had to use high pressure
I ran half of a 25 pound box of 80 grit glass bead over and over the front of the rims got the sides of the slots also.. very happy with results
did the center Porsche crests also. thats for the fronts 16x6 the rear
7x16s need to have the chrome removed. from a chromer..
not for another 2 weeks.
I set up a background using heavy milled plastic ran out against the garage door 7 ft 4 ft high & out from ther gagrage door along th floor
4 ft ... ended up like lil sandbox.
After test fitting these interior panels Ive been working
on, almost done have the rear seat sides and hatch areas done on both sides.. I second layered them with primer cleaned my gravity gun
kept my respirator on .... ran 80 grit glass beads thru a small gun over and over ... _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

They look good as bare shiney aluminium.
So you might want to just clearcoat?.. I noticed while doing my own painting that PPG makes different chem cleaner/etch/prep solutions for aluminum. One etch (DX503) for use on aluminum that will be subsequently primed and painted (this version leaves the aluminum with a yellowish-tan (gold-ish, but not pretty) colored coating) - and another non-coloring solution (DX501) for use when clearcoating. Both of them contain chromic acid (handle with care) and are used after cleaning with either "DX579" or "DX533" (DX579 is more versatile as it can be used to clean steel or aluminum depending on dilution. DX533 comes as a weaker solution for aluminum only). -Both of the cleaners contain phosphoric acid as their main active ingredient, plus there are other nasties, so again handling with care is advised.

None of the above would apply for use over sandblasted metal. I'd assume the same applies for beadblasted. But if they were to be subsequently sanded, then polished, then yes, metal cleaning and etching solutions would be appropriate..

You may be looking at anodized sections of the wheel there. (The outer circle beyond what's normally painted black from the factory, right?) _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

Smoothies your cars looken pretty dreamy. I like it.
The silver I was talkin about maybe the self etching
primer that was used, 'No' it wasnt on the outer
circle it was on the inner circle.. I like the raw look of
freshly bead blasted metal. 80 grit leaves it pretty
smooth 'really bright' center caps look good that way too.
really need good eye prtection when doing this outside of
a cabinet ... a respirators a good idea also.. I got
some of the bead in my eyes its pretty hard to nearly
impossable to wash out. Its quiter a discomfort... though the rims
look awesome. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

** when blasting outside of a cabinet.. wear something for your
eyes I didn't and today is the first day (3 days later) that
I can say my eyes are back to normal.. gonna use a
pair of snow goggles ( Sn borden Sn skiing Sn mobiling
goggles). yesterday I stripped the back side with the
stripper.. soon Ill sand the fronts again with 1000 grit
or higher paper then bead blast them again Im thinking I
leave them like that for a while with some clear. Your
right smoothie (iceburgs spotted) there like big chunks of
aluminum Time to visit the tire store too and have the
tires switched I might
even toss the ones on there now there 60s to tall a tire.
Cant wait to get the chrome removed from the 7"s _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

You're a wild man Joe - blasting without breathing and eye protection.. Best is to wear a sandblast hood in conjunction with a respirator, but I got by with a wool cap, eye goggles and a respirator, then picked the sand ("slag" actually) out of my scalp later. As I mentioned in my repaint thread, sand contains unhealthy levels of silica (similar affect as asbestos) when it's pulverized by media blasting, but even if you're using a safer media such as coal slag, the surface that you're blasting is getting pulverized into a fine powder and who knows what's in that stuff..
Racing goggles with the peelable clear sheets might be a good idea for eye protection. I used some old welding goggles with clear lenses and other times a pair of almost-clear UV protection eyeglasses from a dollar store - they're ruined now. Anything (except for something with peelable sheets) will be ruined from the blast media hitting it. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

Eye protection is a MUST. Speaking as someone out of industry, please don't take any chances. Last time I did something without eye protection, I was deburring the end of a piece of steel. Caught a grinder spark RIGHT in the eye, probably 4 hours from any real medical attention. It wasn't serious, luckily for me.
Do not #### around with your eyes. It only takes a split second and you're blind. _________________ '81 931 in various states of assembly |
