This procedure is also in the technical section, but I am repeating it here with further detail and part numbers. This procedure should work on any N/A 924 whether you are using a '79 with a snail setup or any other year with the Audi box. Of course, the donor tube must be for the same trans type. Also, since the shaft sizes are different, you must also use a trans made with the 25mm input shaft. For the '79, you can use any 931 tube and trans from years that had snail trans ('79 and '80 turbos). I have read that some later European 931s also used the snail. If you have an Audi box, there are many options. Audi equipped 931s, ('81 and '82), 944s, and the 951 will work. Again, you will need to buy both a trans and the tube. With either type, the linkage is the same. Where I live, the 25mm tube is just easier to find. The 25mm tube is splined 1"x23, or metric 25.4mmx23. A 931 or 944 disc will not fit because the diameter is too big for the N/A bellhousing. However, as someone else has discovered, a 1983 Ford Mustang 2.3L disc will fit. Some of these cars came with a German built 4 speed trans and used an 8 1/2" (215mm) clutch with the same spline size as the 931/944 torque tube. The NAPA part number is RCF899 and costs about $34/US. Use the 924 N/A release bearing and assembly should be no problem.

Just a note (for our Aussie readers more than anyone, I guess);
As far as I know, ALL Australian-delivered 924 Turbo's used the "snail shell" transaxle, regardless of year. _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

Just to keep the confusion to a minimum here, I think it should be said the transmission or transmission input shaft also needs to be changed out. It is also 25mm. I suppose a custom coupler could be made but not easily.

This disc is used to match a 924 flywheel, pressure plate, and bellhousing to a 931\944 torque tube and tranny. If this what you have it will work.

Shoot Todd I was really worried there for a minute
thought there was a shoe - in for an alternate disc for
the 5 sp snail 79. I thought I did my research before
/ I spent 265 clams for a Sachs disc. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na
