Ignore the second picture, that is the back of the engine, everything you need to set the cam/crank timing is at the front of the engine.

The small circle on the back is what you want to line up with the pointer on the cam cover. If it is the correct one, the small circle should be cast into the sprocket.

Ignore this marking.

Get the the top mark (on sprocket) and pointer (on cam cover) lined up, and the bottom mark (on pulley) and pointer (on oil pump) lined up, at the same time as having the correct tension on the belt (just able to twist 90 degrees with finger and thumb), and you are good to go. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

| Ok. Got it running again, doesn't quite feel 100% but it is running ok. I have however noticed that i am loosing coolant quite quickly, i have noticed a constant drip next to the alternator, behind the centre pulley for the Alternator belt. I have put the leak down to that, the oil seems fine the coolant has not oil being pumped into it. Any idea's what that is? |

Good to hear that you didnt have the same problem that I had. The head was blown out between cylinder 3 and 4. Had the same problem that you had with the running issue. _________________ 1976 924 Automatic- Body Only

Just for the record, you need not two but THREE things to align when you retension the belt...
1) Dot on the back of the cam pulley with the pointer on the valve cover
2) Crank pulley mark with pointer on front of engine
3) ROTOR POINTING TO #1 MARK ON RIM OF DIZZY
Without all 3 working together, cam, crank, dizzy, she no workee. |
