Alternator belt broke last night, am getting the replacement, what is the best way to replace it, i have read that on the 924 you don't need the special tensioner for this or cam belt. Not too sure if that is right. If it is i'll replace the cam belt as well.

Heating, when i put the front demister on, not a lot happens, i get some air from the two vents the middle, not much mind, all the others don't have anything coming from them. Anyone got any idea's on problem and possible fix.

Thanks in advance

The alternator belt is replaced the same as any other car, loosen off the alternator adjustment, fit belt and retighten, giving about 1/2 inch play on the longest side.
The cam belt is also easily replaced on a 924 but the tension can be a pain depending on your tensioner.
I always set mine to TDC on the crank and cam, release the tensioner and then replace the belt.
Retension so that the longest side can still be turned 90deg and tighten.
Rotate the engine 2 turns and check TDC still lines up.

Havent had the air box out so cant help you there.

what a coincidence mine snapped on me lat Monday night it was really
rainy it happened right after I got of the highway onto my exit
so I was only about 5 miles from home..my car fit on the flatbed with out any problems with the front chin spoiler hitting thanks to the competent
tow driver. Any way I get the new belt and it seemed a little to tight I forced it on though didn't want to take the time to jack up the car and remove the belly pan and tighten the alt belt the right way I do it. No
instead I reach from above the hood and pulled the alt tight as I could and tight end it down. Id notice the volt gauge reading lower than it should
by the time I got to work. By the time I'm off work its dark again. So
on Saturday night disaster struck and on the way home my light dimmed to really low
the bottom fell out of the volt gauge though the temp gauge didn't move
finally the motor started miss-en I took an exit and parked in a taco bell
lot and called the flat bed again I also had a eggnog latte and took home
some taco bell. Sent the battery off today and jacked up the front to get
to the alt belt the way I like to. My battery went dead from not having
a tight belt.

i do not know how to release the tension on the system. The alternator bolts i cannot get to, i believe the tensioner is on the middle pulley, cannot loosen that one off (the one with the 3 small bolts) and the 3rd pulley you don't touch anyway. Not too sure how to do this. I thought of slackening of the alternator but cannot get to any bolts. It;s starting to be a pain. Any help on what to loosen and where is it would be great. Thanks for the info thus far.

Not knowing what year your car is I hope this is correct,

The alternator is adjusted like any other old car-loosen all the mounting bolts, put on the new belt-pry the alt over with a big screw driver and tighten all the bolts back up.

The timing belt tensioner is best found by looking for the roller with what looks like a large (20mm?) nut under the (14mm?) bolt. When tensioning the t-belt always turn the large nut the same way as the belt travel.
Hope this helps

Thanks for that, i have been trying that since the alternator belt broke, i cannot get the belt over onto the pulley, i have even tried removing the centre pulley but that does not work. I am just going to have to keep trying i guess, i wanted to make sure i was doing everything correctly.
Thanks for the help.

Now that you mention it I seem to remember having trouble with my alt belt last time I replaced it; I took off the water pump pulley, put the alt belt on then I was able to get 1 bolt at a time back into the pump pulley until they were all in. Try that

Alternator belt all done, Timing Belt all done, but it is running very rough at the moment, takes about 7-10 seconds of turning before it fires and then sounds rougher than a bagers backside until it cuts out. Not too sure what is wrong now, everything was fine prior to changing the belts. Having fun with this at the moment.
