haha, hey, I'm still waiting to get the car, I haven't phoned the guy yet. He told me it would go in the body shop on monday (just to get the roof repainted and trim put back on)
If I don't get it tomorrow which I doubt it'll probably be next week. I've never been to a body shop but I guess they take this long. _________________ 78 924 sold.

Doesn't usually take that long just to do that Tim.
I had presumed that this was your car... _________________ 1983 - 924 (185K miles) - not mint

Maybe I'll phone hime today or the latest tomorrow to see what's going on.I'm not really suprised though, when I took my 924 to have the timing set this shop didn't phone me back after 7 days and I had to phone them a million times to get the car back.....
He has my home number and cell numbr so I would assume he would phone me. I doubt he'd run away with my deposit and sell the car to someone else. I have his adress and number. He said he would drive the car to me so I don't have to bus all the way there again, tooke me 2 hours 40 minutes to bus and take the train.
Chris, hahah that's my generic avatar on rennlist not my car, that looks like a 924. My car is a charcoal grey looking color.
When I get my car I'll post pics for sure After that I have to figure out if I'm going to pay 2 grand to get the front engine service done or to do it myself (still costs 800-1000 with tools). I"m pretty confident I can do all the work except the oil seals look like a bitch to do and if I do it wrong I can just create an oil leak instead of fixing one (pulling the gears out and the sprockets/ woodruf keys looks frustrating and I would probably break something). _________________ 78 924 sold.

Trust me on this one: You do not want to try to do a front service on a 944. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

I'm going to be really broke soon so I kindof still want to do it. Insurance on this car costs 2750 a year with crash which is a really good idea if you drive everyday.
I'm pretty sure I can do everything if I don't replace the oil seals then I won't have to remove the camshaft ... If there isn't a big leak from the oil seals I can just leave it.
it doesn't look that hard but I'm still scared because I can wreck the motor with a small mistake like being off on the timing but if I check everything a million times and ask questions (rennlist, clarks garage) and take my time I think I should be fine.
Is it really that hard? I just have no idea how to properly replace oil seals but everything else is just basicly removing gears and rollers and putting them back on.
I'll probably change my mind once I get the car and remove the front timing cover..... It looks much easier in the pictures on the monitor. _________________ 78 924 sold.

haha thanks. I just don't want to play mechanic and break a car that will cost 5 grand with the timing belt parts.
I'm pretty sure I won't be able to replace the oil seals though and I don't want to pull out the woodruf keys so if it starts gushing oil out after the belts are done there would be no point to a new belt. I just want to replace the water pump and all rollers and belts. _________________ 78 924 sold.

Mechanics that have been doing timing belts on other cars 3 or 4 times a week for decades, have trouble doing their first 944.
Good luck, please ask all your questions about this subject at Clarks Garage. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

oh, that's interesting. What's so different about the Porsche motor other than having the balance belts. I'm obviously not an expert and haven't seen the belts on other common cars so I don't know how much more difficult the 944 would be.
Yes I know I'll ask my questions on Clarks garage looks like a really helpful site with tons of info
also according almost everyone on that site the porsche 9021 or whatever tensioning tool is not necessary. They say that the "kricket" tool is fine and alot of people even claim the 90 degree twist method is good enough. _________________ 78 924 sold.

Yes I bought an 85.5 944 last week and I have still not received it. I guess it's still in the body shop getting the roof painted..... _________________ 78 924 sold.

If you make a mistake your rebuilding the top end of the engine
are you willing to take that chance with the 90deg twist.
Save your money have it done right! or get yourself to one of those
Renlist timing belt parties. _________________ 1981 924 NA (Restoring mode)
