I am always listening to to sound of my engine if it sounds normal. About a year ago I heard my engine ticking at 3000 rpm or higher. I suppose that the ticking is caused by the injectors. Right now I hear the engine ticking at 1000 rpm or higher. Could it be that my injectors are dirty?

I have never cleaned anything in 2 year. Just cleaned/replaced engine (car) fluids.

Could someone help me out?

P.S. The ticking isn't that loud, but I'm a careful listener. It is hearable while driving though. You can hear the ticking very clearly with the engine hood open.

The ticking bothers me because I couldn't hear it at 1000 rpm before.

Yeah, I seem to recall that the 924S has hydraulic lifters - unlike the 924, whose mechanical lifters always click'n'clack. Therefore it's most likely the injectors. Try running one or two bottles of Chevron FI cleaner with Techron through - Porsche actually recommends it by name. It's always a good idea, at least one bottle a year...

What kind of oil would you suggest for a 924S? 10W40 or 15W40?

I use 10W40, could that be too thin?
Thanx for your info by the way.

It sounds more to me that your hydraulic lifters are ticking. Can be caused by low oil pressure, or by dirty oil. However, the most common cause are the lifter are reaching the end of their life span.

What could cause the ticking of the lifters? Is it difficult/expensive to fix it?

The oil pressure is ok by the way, oil isn't too dirty either.
