I might wait until next year for a 944 or maybe just be patient until I finish school then maybe I can afford a 968 or 944 turbo.

I don't like the mk3 look it looks too fat and boring, mk2 is the only golf I like. Also there is no 1.6l golf mk3 here, they are all 2l or 1.8l.

I was actually thinking of a mk3 vr6 golf for the power but I don't like the look of the car and the vr6 motor is expensive to maintain.

Is it me, or isn't this whole advice thing getting really old, especially since a 924 is no longer in the picture? More or less, I really don't mean to offend you tim. I'm moved by how much the community has reached out to you unconditionally. But when it is time to move on, well its time to move on. If owning and maintaining a car is any way similar to the way you deal with women, you'll mary the first girl that kisses you without even "checking" to make sure its really a girl. The only thing I can say is different about that analogy is that a woman can choose, where a car can't.

I've gone through the full spectrum of emotions when reading and responding to your posts - I'm not sure I can handle another round . . . we will miss you but I think its time to move on.

I do sincerely wish you the best. This will no doubt be the last post of yours that I will respond to or read.

Take Care!

I don't mind the car talk, I like discussing other vehicles especially when they're being compared to the 924...which we all know, drive, have driven, love(and hate:lol:) at the same time.

But Tim, check out other enthusiust forums for different vehicles you're considering, spend a lot of time just browsing through, ask some questions about particular problems or cars you're looking at to the people who know them even better. Just google and find a board for those cars and research...that's what I waste a lot of my day away doing.

www.vwvortex.com for VW's was a really helpful place I found. They have some links to other VW places around there too, even a classifides forum. Goodluck on the search.

I might buy a 92 Gti 8v from vancouver island tomorrow, 4400obo the guy says everything is good, paint etc but he now tells me it has a cracked winshield which needs to be replaced, not a big deal if it is just a cracked winshield. He says it never had an accident and no rust...... I just hope it doesn't have hidden rust or crash damage, I know vws unlike the porsches can become rust buckets.

I don't think a cracked winshield will be too expensive to replace.

Hi, Tim,

I'd pm'ed you about it some time ago. Now that I've had some time to think about the whole thing, I think you would be better off with a GTI. My car's in my shop right now and I've got the dash out, the seats out and a box full of parts to go in. Don't know exactly why I posted in this thread. Maybe just pulling the tail of the dragon. If you really want to know about my car I'll gladly give you the run-down but I don't know if I could try to sell it to you with a clear conscience. Primarily because I don't think you're ready for a car like that. (I probably have no business making that statement - it's your life - but there are two young boys here and I get to see developing humanity as it happens and it rarely thinks with its head.) I wasn't ready when I got my 944 13 years ago and have spent so much time becoming a 944 mechanic - time I couldn't afford when I got the car. When I read your posts about buying a 944 I see a couple of things. Someone had commented that you're buying with your emotions, not conducting business for a method of transportatiion. That's how I got into my 944. I had an RX-7 that I truly loved and miss it to this day. The 944 is a far better car, but I wish I'd bought it after I'd matured more. You live at home, you go to school, you're building a life. The last thing you need is a machine that needs more of your attention and resources than you can give. Not that my 944 isn't reliable - it is and anybody buying it wouldn't have to do anything but typical maintenance on it, but eventually something will break (it's a machine, after all) and when that happens, you'll need an intimate knowledge of its workings, significant resources and/or lots of money. Money you don't have.

Money, I don't have either. Time and intelligence I do. Maturity I'm getting. Do yourself a favor - get a reliable car and save up your 944 dreams for when you're established in your life.

Good grief, what a fatherly tone! I gotta print this for when my kids ask me to go car shopping with them. Many years from now...

I ended up not buying the gti, it wasn't as nice as I thought it would be from the ad.

I'm trying to be patient to find the right car. I would only consider a 944 if it was in excellent shape. Theres a 84 at a car dealer with service records from 84 and 191 k, looks really nice too but it is an automatic and is listed for 7800.
