It's been over a week since Timstar has mentioned buying a car...and I made a bet he would have a 944 by the end of the month? So what are you buying Tim?

I don't know yet. I'm probably going to wait until August or september to buy a car.

I was thinking of quitting my job this week but then I can't afford a car obviously.

If I find a new job that I like better and get good hours then I'll buy a 944..... if I don't find a new job soon I might still quit my job and buy a hyundai and put one of those bumper stickers on the back "My other car is a porsche"

I still have lots of time so I'm hopping I can afford a 944.

I was also thinking about a 93+ bmw 325, they're more modern and probably more reliabe than a 944 but I'm not sure how expensive they are to maintain in comparison to a 944.

Tim, don't get a BMW. The 924 is a cheap car to buy parts for and a BMW isn't. You'll be in at the dealer once or twice and after paying about $115.00 per hours just for labor, you'll go belly up fast. As for a 944, they will usually have harder lives than a 924 or 924S as that's what they're image is. If you are low on cash, stick with cheaper cars. I can show you a parts list of what I've done to my BMW in 6 months. With the money I spend on it, I could have bought 2 944's. Even older BMW's aren't cheap or easy. And you can forget about working on it by yourself or getting help online. Un;ess you have the proper tools and knowhow, you'll need the dealer for everything.

yeah I know about that theres no way I can do any work on a bmw. Repairs will be really expensive but more than a 944?

from what I've heard the 318 is cheap to maintain and reliable but it's not really a bmw..... it only has a 1.8l 4cyl with 138 hp so you might as well get a honda civic.

Tip...find a new job first, then quit your old one. It's not that easy to find a decent job, sure you can walk into McDonalds and they'll take you up, but a decent job that you really want can take a long time to find.

I work at a grocery store, it sucks but it's still better than fast food which I"ve never worked at and never will. My job is basicly labour and it's really boring and tiring. I"m also starting to have back problems.

I want to try retail, like a sales person.

Go to Napa, then you'll get almost all the parts at half price or less.

you may hate me for saying this but

if you want something which is cheap, reliable, and fun get a toyota supra, not a porsche but a sports car with massive horsepower nevertheless

from what I've read the toyota supra isn't fun to drive. I kind of liked the 92+ mr2 but it's only 135 hp and I've also heard that they are dangerous to drive in wet wheather so that's not an option anymore.

I might apply at Napa and Lordco but they usually hire new people as drivers to deliver parts... I don't really want a delivery job.

Ya, I forgot. Unless you work full time you'll just be a driver. But if you're gonna
buy a car that's expensive you should get a job that allows you to get the parts somewhat cheaper,
otherwise it'll kill you cause you're still in University, right?

Tim you must be an addict. Because a company has an entry level car doesn't mean the car isn't from said company. And you also can't compare a 944 with an unknown history to a 3 series BMW with an unknown history. Are you really that slow?

Also, a 318 is old... like a 924... who knows how reliable the one you're going to buy is. Why would a 318 be cheaper to have than a 320 or 325? Do you use any logic at all or just stumble from problem to problem like a whino?

DON'T BUY A SPORTS CAR. WAIT UNTIL YOU HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO BUY A CAR IN GOOD SHAPE AND HAVE SOME CASH LEFT OVER FOR REPAIRS AND INSURANCE.

Buy a bicycle or a cheap small car and save your pennies.

If sports cars were all cheap, reliable, fun and worry free, everyone on the planet would have 30 of them!

More than a dozen people on this site have told you this before. If you ignore these words and get a 944, BMW or any other kind of sports car, you're asking for trouble. You don't have the money, or the knowledge or the ability to own these kinds of cars. Buy an old VW, Toyota, Honda or whatever. Some day I'm sure you'll be able to pick up a good sports car and have loads of fun with it.

And as for sales, you won't make it, even retail sales {which is the easiest form of selling}.

Find a good job without much stress. Unless you are a high energy person with a lot of drive, it isn't for you and from what I've read it really isn't for you.

Tim,

Get a Ford probe. They are very fast, and probably easy to find with a manual transmission. A friend of mine has one, it is pretty cool. They were meant to replace mustangs, but they never caught on like the mustang. Some of the late models look really good. ..Maybe they didn't make them to Canada though.

I don't want a domestic. I've had bad experience with domestic cars and I know a lof of other people who agree. Ford probes seem to have a lot of failed transmissions......
