Tim,
use the link above, the us 931 has 150 hp, later 156 hp (S2 turbo). Not only HP is important, also torque....
If you can keep the turbo pushing, the 931 will take a 944.

but those specs have mistakes like for my 78 924 the hp is incorrect on that table so there must be other mistakes also. _________________ 78 924 sold.

Agreed, the Series 2 is level pegging with the 924S / 944 but it has the highest top speed though _________________ 1981 931 S2

| So which car has a higher top speed? So its true that a older 931 is faster than a newer 924S? |

one thing you have to count is how the cars would do racing each other on a course, not only a strait drag race type of thing _________________ Why drink and drive when you can smoke and fly?

...and once again, I don't think that there would be a great amount in it if the cars were stock. _________________ 1983 - 924 (185K miles) - not mint

its hard for me to believe any of the statistics. because i know everything about my 924S and its faster than any straight 944 because of aerodynamics and tansmition and weight. are these statistics of when the cars first came out because my 924S quarter mile is 16.5 yet its stating its a 15.7 and its acting like the transmitions are the same for the top speed. its all lies i tell you. all lies! it seems like these were all more of just like calculations of what would possibly happen rather than actual testing. _________________ Black 1988 924S SE

i totally agree with Mav, you cant say which car is the better just cause of some mean horsepower calculations, all that matters is time trails, so if you really want to know we should organize a race between the two cars. _________________ Why drink and drive when you can smoke and fly?

turbo is turbo...turbo will win...even if they have the same HP the turbo wins...because it revs faster and the turbo gets into higher speed in less distance and time.
but i'm looking forward to a race...maby someone would like to record it ? _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

We've got both - although the 931 is in pieces everywhere right now. I found the 931 to have a little more thrill when I put the hammer down and the turbo kicked in but the 944 is more refined and slicker in every way. The 931 didn't feel as safe and solid as the 944 at speeds near or over 100 mph. The 944 just plain feels more technologically sophisticated. The 931 motor vibrates and sounds kinda ricer-like on startup and the car feels skittish sometimes it's so light. The 944 feels more serious, stronger. The 931 is zippy, the 944 is racy, more solid. For around-town fun I'd choose the 931. For hiway trips I'd go with the 944. And even though they've both got similar interiors, I'd swear there's less room for me in the 931 - head and leg. And the 944 engine is so much more easy to work on!!! The 931 is a rat's nest of ridiculously engineered add-ons. And CIS???
Just my $.02...

yea i guess the 944 is more acusticaly treated...so you dont hear all that noise...the 2.5 makes the same sound(its still a 4 in line)...except its lower in tone...as far as i can tell.
Yea the 944 is newer and it should feel more secure...then again this might just be a feeling...the 944 is not heavier by much....100-200 KG max !
and that weight comes from the engine and maby extra sound stopping materials ...there is more space in the 924..it has a smaller dash....other than that...the cars are completly identical.
yea the 931 might be zippy and ricy since its got a small engine....but still...its faster
its the overall design that has evolved...and makes you feel more secure and feel like you have more space and stuff. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits
