Will 944 (series 2 ie 1987) struts just bolt in to a 924 ? The top of the mounts look different but otherwise the seem the same. _________________ 1980 924 lux Ireland |

It's possible to fit them, but you need to enlarge the lower mounting bolt hole because the distance between the eccentric and regular bolt is bigger on 86-up cars. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

thx Raceboy, yes it is the front suspension I was refering to. So i could leave the bottom of the strut, which attaches to the stearing knuckle in place and replace the rest of the strut assembly? _________________ 1980 924 lux Ireland |

The geometry is a tad different too - keep in mind that the late 944 wheels are pushed out an extra inch compared to ours. The strut assembly is angled outward more. The late 944 top strut bushings are angled and can't be used. The bottom bolt holes are likely offset by more than distance to make up for the angle too.
Late 944 strut assemblies are also sealed units - you can't replace the strut cartridge.
Why would you want to make the swap? There isn't anything to be gained.

It is possible to run, late model struts on early cars, but there has to be some modifications
First the mounts on the spindles are smaller in thickness so the ealry spindles must be shaved for the strut to go over the spnidle, you could just use the late spindles but they have no provision for the speedo cable
second, the strut holes must be elongated so that the difference in bolt hole spacing can be made up for.
I did this using a set of 88 944 s struts
it took me about two hours to get the fit right
I was very happy with the results and coupled with a set of sport springs, my ride was alot better than my stock struts with bilstien strut inserts
if I can get to it, I will try and post a picture of the struts installed.
When took into the alignment shop, I had no problems achieving correct alignment. _________________ Life is to short to be looking for something? |

My strut bearings are dead and i need to repair them, saw some decent complete 944 struts on ebay and though it would be simpler just to change the whole thing but apparently not .. thanks for your help _________________ 1980 924 lux Ireland |
