I have yet to hear anyone say how much a swap costs,
aside from the engine itself, how much does it cost for rest (mounts, radiator, adapters, little things)?
also, does anyone know if the ford 5.0 FI fits under a stock hood? _________________ 1987 924S Guards Red

The answer to your question is as broad as the choices of engines..... but the short answer in my opinion is it costs ALOT! _________________ 1976 924

yes- the ford 5.0 is 2 inches shorter than the LT1 engine... and lighter... some people believe this engine is better to install since of the significant weight differance and you can get just as much power out of them... _________________ Classic British Sports Car Restoration v6 + v8 Engine Conversion Swaps

the problem is, by installing a ford motor, you'd also have to convert it to a pick-up, not install mufflers, and install a gun rack _________________ Ryan Moone

That would make you a Porsche-redneck. I used to carry a giant slide-rule in my F150 gun-rack, so I guess I was a nerd-redneck.

How much a swap costs depends entirely on what you buy. You could put an engine in the car for $2000 total, if you got a decent price on the motor and fabricated everything yourself. If you have to pay someone else to do it, it gets very expensive, very fast.
The 5.0 clears the hood of a first generation RX7, so that guarantees that it fits in the 924. _________________ '81 931 in various states of assembly |

How about a 944 engine. Wouldn't that be pretty cheap and worth while? It seems like 944 parts cars are pretty plentiful. With an engine swap, does it usually entail a new tranny as well? I sort of want to drop a 944 engine in my 924 later on. I'm still in high school, so this will probly be a project for later.
