An interesting turn of events. I would've expected it to be the other way around... _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

I thought Porsche was privately held. I heard that Porsche stock took a dive upon announcement of the buy. I guess it's not??

Unlike most American Companies, Porsche is NOT interested in maximizing short term profits, but rather securing it's future. They are very good at not getting in over their heads. _________________ 1981 931 (Concours)

VW is a giant compared to Porsche. Many seem to think it's the other way around, and that VW owns Porsche, but this is not so. Porsche has always been, and will always be independent. _________________ '81 931 in various states of assembly |

I think, until recently, one of the Porsche family was chairman of VW.
Tim, Porsche does not own Honda, Accura, Toyota and Lexus!

I did know Porsche's an independant manufacturer.
I know they do more than just manufacture cars (apparently they have a strong engineering consultancy) but after reading in recent years their sales were slipping and then seeing them make the SELL-OUT Cayenne, I thought they might be in trouble.
I was wondering how long it'd be before one of the conglomerates bought Porsche (I was ready to end it all if Ford bought it )
So I was surprised to find out they were in a strong enough position to buy a fifth of VW.
Good on 'em! _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

I didn't know it was publicly traded, hmm, that gives me something to invest in.
I think it would be the end if Ford OR GM bought Porsche, if that happened, I guess I would have to be a strictly Ferrari guy _________________ 1987 924S Guards Red

Ferrari are owned by Fiat, which is no better than GM or Ford really, apart from it being italian, which I am not sure if that is good or bad.
I think a fair amount of Porsches work is in consultancy, like lotus, they are a very big engineering consultancy who happen to also make cars. _________________ Chris |

its weird how gm owns everything now, like the own Saab, I heard jaguars are owned by gm also and so is Land Rover. I could be wrong.
I think gm also owns Opel.
I think there are lots of rumors people hear about porsche and other cars.
my dad thinks that the porsche boxster is not really a porsche because it has a vw engine. I'm pretty sure tha'ts incorrect I guess he must be thinking of the 924. _________________ 78 924 sold.
